Title: A cold morning in China
Name: David Edwards
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Photoshop

Personal matte painting that i did in Adobe photoshop, created to further develop my painting skills. My goal was to enhance the original photography and return the scene to the cold wintery morning of late 18th century China. I accomplished this by removing all signs of modern day culture and adding additional structures well remaining realistic and true to the environment itself. My final challenge was to change the original summery season to a cold winter by over painting snow and ice and grading to the correct tone.

Hi, thanks.

I should note to anyone who's a little unsure that this is a matte paint over and not a complete original painting.

This is the original photo with the people (second image) etc.. as posted over at the Matte painting thread:

lol, you should have left the running guy in there...that's impressive ;)

Great matte work. Fantastic choice of an image to start with--just out of curiousity, did you take it?

Reall nice work m8!

Great work; simple idea, well executed. I liked the jumping guy too, almost looks like he is doing some martial arts wire work! Shame you couldn't find a reason to keep him.

Some great work on your website too...dark or milk chocolate?
