wow, very cool work, and very nice music to go with it (though i'm fortunate enough to be able to understand it). I love the design of the character, textures, animation.. and the grass! that was very nicely done and very well integrated with the design of the character.
if you did this in one month (you and your friends), i cant wait to see what you do next month :)

The sequence where she falls into the water from the branch showed a really nice sense of weight, and I loved the timing of her swimming. Beautiful image when she first falls in, too.
I thought her run had a Miyazaki feel to it, did you use any of his work as reference?

It all fits together

The only thing it's really missing, are sound effects.. you wouldn't believe how much more alive that would make it.
but I guess because it's a music video.. maybe that's no option.

Loved the style and the story. I thought that the animation itself was perhaps a little stiff and needed a bit more weight in some areas but, hell, I'm nit picking. You did this in a month?!?! Jeez...did you guys get any sleep? :)
Great work, I really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for posting it.

Encore Bravo !
*I like your anim very much, the cutting out is well done and the story's end bluffed me. For those who dont understand the french lyrics, briefly, it tells about the humanity and his gloomy destiny.
It tells about the pollution, that the man is destroying his own environmment, so people that we are now, we have to "breath", that we have to take advabtage of what we have now...not when the world will be forsaken...sorry Jcombe if i interpetrated some of ur speaks.*

Truly fantastic, the animation is nothing short of brilliant. The song is fresh and veryyyyy French! Love it. In fact, the most impressive thing is how well the concept has been carried out. The finale is great, what a great idea!!
Love to see more like this!

Great animation. I do not understand French, but was able to understand the the story easily by watching the animation.
Since I did not understand the Lyrics this might not have fit, but one thing that would have been a neat addition to the end of the story would be for the little girl to look left, then right, and then dash back toward the end of the line again.
P.S. You really should re-do the animation without the song track. Just ambient forest noises, sound effects and sounds of a little girl playing.

great
A+
Edit: Make that B+... A lot of the animation looks linear, but that's fine. The one thing that looked bad were the kids waiting in line at the end. None animated until the very last second. (Don't people breath even in 3D reality?)

this just beat For the birds in my own personal favorite cg-short list )
always been a big fan of your work jcombe (i think i have some of your work as my wallpaper to keep me motivated heh) . one of my instructor said , after watching the clip, "with the right amount of prepro anything's possible" and this music video proves him right.
felicitations et total respect, garcons )
(translating DarkVidor's comment for non french speakers, since i read a thread some time ago about how uncool it was not to understand what some people were writing about)
" I subscribed to cgtalk for a while now and the only thing i do is lurk. but now, i couldn t restrain myself and i offer you my first post and you very well deserve it (even if it's not much) . Animation wise, nothing is to be said even without the music, the pace/rythm is superb. But most of all it s the theme, wow you marvelously executed this theme, you moved me. And there s not many animations that can manage to convey that much emotion. i bow to you , it s really good. i don t know if you plan on reworking the animation but take in consideration the comments of non french speakers. Like my anima instructor says, a good animation can be enjoyed without dialogues to convey emotions, i think you could tweak the little girl in term of expressions, you d have to convey this emotion through sounds and expression (he lost me there.) A video i enjoyed and found moving was "Don't Cry" from Vincent Bui.
anyhow here it is, great job it really good."

02-26-2003, 09:19 PM
Fango: I didnt't say their expression was wrong I just said it could be better, all could be better perfection isn't. And I read all the post and some of them make crits about this not bad crits, just perfect it. For me at the end the girl is sad everybody can see it but we can show it more intensely. But it's a great great animation.

Amazing-- this is probably the best piece i have seen on this site.
The story has such an edge to it as it juxtaposes the sterility and objective nature of the camera with the elegant portrayal of nature and life. This piece creates such a wonderful mood and commentary on the passage of time and how it is seen and experienced.
Great technical execution with different types of character and particles animation. Exquisite coloration and tone with that shader and lighting. Effective camera cuts and angles tell the story. Great touches like the shadow on the screen at the end and the cutout of the deer are just perfect, and the facial expression reveals the melancholic and poignant nature of the piece which is just beautiful.
i absolutely love it.
Great work.
The environment atmosphere, timing to music, model behaviour, storyline and the fact that this is great "cartoon style" makes you forget about some tiny lacks of reality details.
The feet look oversized in some scenes.
I want lyrics. Prefered translated in english.
Whats that french Band' s Name?
There must be cutscenes, were are they?

Wow, It would be unfair for me to not post something about this... this is honestly one of the best CG toon clips I've seen! You really captured the little girl's sense of curiosity. Incredible! I’ve seen many amazing photorealistic looking CG characters… although I’m not too into toon shading style, but this looks great!
For those who don’t know that the song means, it was basically just rapping out the actions she was doing at the time.
This is absolutely going into my inspirational folder. I wish I can animate half as good.

Hi,
the name of the band is Mickey 3D I found the lyrics in french, I had a hard time trying to translate :hmm: so here's the fisrt verse and chorus in a poor translation :hmm:
Breathe (respire)
Approach little one, listens to to me kid, I will tell you the story of human kind
in the beginning there was nothing
at the it beginning everything was fine
nature was doing fine by itself, without a path
then human kind arrived with big shoes kicking people in the face to be respected
one way roads he started to trace
once all the elements were controlled
in a blink of an eye, history was folded
feels like there is no tuning back
we even started polluting the desert
You have to breathe to stay alive, just saying it won’t do anything
You won’t die laughing, it's a big thing to say
Well' I guess you get the picture (stop polluting the planet) so I won't translate the hole song (don't have time for it) just look for it on the net, it's easy to find :) and use systran or ? to translate ;)
ciao
