Well I've been creating objects in Wings3D, and as you may know Wings3D creates no map... so as I'm new to texturing I've been putting it into UVMapper and chosing (planar, cylndrical, spherical ect.)... I just don't know which is best.... often times I'll find that an area of my object is left unmapped and renders white.

Now what program is very best for texturing? I have access to Photoshop at my high school, and PSP7 at home... are both pretty good or does photoshop have nessisary abilities? I'm serious about really creating good textures no matter how long it takes... thanks for your help!

Many UV tools out there. I'm unfamiliar with how Wings3D does it. You might take a look at a tool like Deep UV or BodyPaint 3D, both of which offer some decent tools for creating UVs.

As for painting software, I believe most 3D artists use Photoshop. Some use PaintShopPro, some use Painter, some use Gimp, some use ZBrush. I'm sure I'm leaving somebody out.

Completely depends on the artist. Basically, learn one tool well, then if it's somehow lacking for you, try others.
