Hi Willjohn,
The process from moving to/from your 3D package is quite straight forward. Kaydara provides free plugins for Maya, 3dsmax, Soft/XSI and Lightwave, that allow you to import/export FBX files. FBX is Kaydara's multimedia file format, and is the native format of Motionbuilder.
Typical workflow goes like this:
1- Create a character mesh in your 3D package (with or without bones/skinning)
2- Bring that scene into Motionbuilder and characterize your character (this process is a one time function, that essentially rigs your character)
3- Animate your characeter! (You can retarget animation from other characters, use the control rig to keyframe, blend motions, puppet with a joystick, etc).
4- Import the animating data back into you 3D package ......
Hope that sheds on light on things..=)
dude, this program really rools huh? :airguitar
is there a demo?

There is a 30-day evaluation for Mac OS X. We also have a PE (Personal Edition) for $100, which is a full featured version of the software, for personal/freelance home use. Check it out at www.3dbuzz.com. You can also find a bunch of Motionbuilder training video's there, which can give you a really good idea of the power and flexibility of Motionbuilder.
