Hey Guys really wanted to give this one a go, as clash of the titans was my all time fav film when i was growing up.. I decided to go with Medusa, as her image has carried with me through life more than any other... i hope im not stepping on any toe's

I think you need to make the chest smaller, not just the breasts but the actual ribcage, she looks like a bodybuilder right now, also due to the very well defined deltoids, and the shoulders also look very broad.
I love the facial expression though, and the bottom lighting reinforces it.

Hey oDDity thanks for the reply, in answer to your crits the bodybuilder physque is intentional, i realised that in the film COTT medusa spent allot of her time on her hands crawling around he tomb, so i thought if this is the case then surely her arm and shoulder muscles would be quite defined.

Although this is a medusa model, i also really wanted to put my own take on things, which is why the hair on my model is allot longer and the film.

Rick : not sure what im going to do about the hair yet, i didn't want to do the HH opproach beacuse i wanted to make the image my own, rather than just doing a copy. I like the mowark approach that i have at the mo, but im still undecided, i'll probably do a few veriations on the hair before i deciede which to go with.....

Out of interest why are you going with purple rather than green skin? It seems an arbitrary thing to change...

Nice work, however I'll have to side with those who'd prefer to see more snakes on the head.

Matto : Hi Matt, thanks for dropping by, the reason i went for blue is that all referances that i could find of the actual model were actually blue, i think it only looks green is because of the dodgy lighting in the film, which i guess is yellow. with light theory in mind i think thats why it looks green in the film.

i might be completely of the mark though.

Hi Eddie,

I've got some good reference in natural light of the model and it's a mint green colour. I'll scan them in for you if you like. I won't post them here as they're copyright to the book obviously.

looking really good now Eddie .. the transition between torso/tail looks a lot better now.

You should definately try out a more traditional "hair" style, just to see the difference it makes ...

Only thing bugging me a little bit are the left (my left) thumb and first finger. It could be the angle I don't know but ATM they seem too thin (for such a strong looking woman) and undetailed.

Could just be me though....

thanks guys.... been working on the shaders and textures this weekend...

and John yes you right, i have tried to fix, but still loads todo, only but a basic texture on the smakes, will refine later, plus i need to work on the tail and mid-drift

I like the skin texture mate, looks really old and wrinkly.

The head looks great, I love the expression, but the anatomy on the body is a bit wonky, especially the arms.

Excellent updates Ed!

i think the problem with the arms is that the upper forarm area to the elbow needs to be slightly twisted inward to go along with how the hand is posed holding that bow or something. Its just a little to flat and round.

I don't know though... maybe I shouldn't be talking. You've seen the arms on my model....LOL.

Keep'em coming. I really like how you've translated this classic into your own new interpretation for the challange. Its awesome that this challenge has opened up such a wide variety of models for the tribute :cool:

thanks guys , but unfortunately im alittle too far down my pipeline to start changing geometrey at this point, as my mesh is quite dense due to the ZB import.

i really need to start thinking about the background

Hi Eddie, Nice progress with your entry. Was interesting catching up on this one as I don't think you had a thread up and running when I was first checking out the challenge. In the main it looks good but the head doesnt convince me at all. It looks too masculine to me, I know that the medusa in the film is an old hag but she's still recognisibly feminine. The other thing that looks wierd to me are the snakes actually coming out of her head like piping. The film is dark and Im not sure it ever gets that close but it always struck me as a kind of writhing nest of snakes atop her head rather than actually emerging from it. I dont know if you can readjust the snakes easily with history but I would definitely pose them bee-hive style rather than off her shoulders, I think that would instantly tie her in more closely with the medusa in the film.

Hey Cameo thanks for dropping by, yes your right about the hair, but im not going for a carbon copy of rays design, i wanted to make the image my own, which is why i have done the hair differnetly, i never really liked the way ray did it in the film so i wanted to come up with something of my own, but something that ties in with the original myth.

As for the face i tried going for a body building old granny look, as that thought saces the life out of me :)

Forgetting Ray's model I think this is looking really good, love the wrinkly spaniels ears (boobs)and the texture on her belly transition is working alot better.

I agree with others tho, the upper forearms needs rotating or smoothing out to get a more natural line down the inner arms.

The fingers could also do with beefing up (as mentioned before) and the skin texture on her tail looks to be stretching (the top bit of the tail where it starts to leave the floor)

but all in all it's spot on, keep it up.

Rog : ill try to sort the arm at the weekend, as im alittle ahead of schedule, the tail is a major headach as i messed up the uvs alittle, but ill try to fix, i need to give another stab at the bump map anyway as im not happy with it at the mo

nearly ther on texturing : just need to do mouth, teeth, snakes on head and ground... maybe background

That's so cool. I love the glowing eyes in the prelims. The hand holding the bow seems a little limp to me but overall it rocks.
