Title: Lightning Bug Character
Name: Robert Henry
Country: United States
Software: Modo, Photoshop

A mechanical lightning bug I have been working this month between my work projects.

Modeled and rendered in Modo. Textures created in Modo and PhotoShop.

Still have a few more subtile texturing details I want to add. Want to add some oil and dirt on the cast aluminum. Would also like to paint in some tarnish and heat discoloration on the chrome. Hi-res wallpapers will be posted soon, so please check back.

We are looking for a freelance animator -
We are going to produce an animation short with this character and are looking for a freelance animator to collaborate with us on the project. If you are interested email me: robert_at_wjdg_dot_com

Let me know what you think. Any critique or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for looking,
Rob

Great modelling! The materials look OK, but as you said, it will look a lot better when you add some dirt and oil :)
The only critic from me would be your choice of cropping the image - I think you should show the whole bug; you've cut away some parts that I feel should be seen.

Really nice concept and design! Looks ace!

I cant fault it really apart from as said dirt on materials would improve the image.

Great work

I agree too with you about the dirt

Still have a few more subtile texturing details I want to add. Want to add some oil and dirt on the cast aluminum. Would also like to paint in some tarnish and heat discoloration on the chrome. Hi-res wallpapers will be posted soon, so please check back.

Good luck.

Interesting.

Maybe mats can be more complex. Also, I would like to see full creature.

Nice construction - it`s a real pleasure to look at it ;) because it`s not just a stupid, boring car, house etc. | Very creative!

excellent work here. this reminds me of "The Robot Zoo", a book illustrating various animals in robotic form. i was actually thinking about creating some of them in 3d, but my skills are obviously well behind yours. well done.
