View Full Version : Breaking the camera's glass?

I wanted to create an object which would leap towards the camera and hopefully break the camera's lens (sort of like a webbed crack in the class). Sort of like this http://www.carvariety.com/upload/library/tactics/glass/broken-glass-tempered_235.gif
but maybe not so intense. I thought about creating a plane with alot of transperancy but then cracking it was a problem and such.
Does anybody have any ideas?

why, just use the broken glass plugin by captain dan...
actually, just do some creative work to simulate such a thing.

Create an alpha'd glass crack texture, map it to a flat plane thats in front of the camera and make it a child of the camera, Keyframe its visibilty to OFF until the thing hits and Keyframe its Visibility ON...

If you wanted to recreate the look of a Camera's view finder you could proabably pull something off using Flash or After Effetcs and slap it on a foreground object so its front and centre throughout your animation. Create 2 animations, the second with the lens cracked and use s stage object to switch the animations (on the foreground object) at the appropriate time.

alright I'll try these suggestions out, thanks.
By the way, what's the broken glass plugin by captain dan?

Have a hammer ready, and as you play the aniimation for the client, wait for he moment the object in the animation flies forward--then SLAM the display screen.
No dont do that. ;)
You could build a transparent wall with refraction in front of the camera, then use the explode effect on the glass. You would want to cut your wall before hand into nice radiating wedges, so the shatter effect will create the proper pattern.
Desite the apparent humor in the post above--there actually was a nice plugin for Max or Maya called Blastcode--that would do this very well.
There was a thread about a year or so here with some attempts to duplicate the blastcode shatter look. (I think TCAstudios started it?)

yeah I've heard about blastcode but I don't have maya or max. Well actually I have max but 30 day trial should be close to done by now and it's for a commercial job anyways. :(
Just did a search for blastcode over the forums, got alot of hope from something called 4Detenator or something but that's about it.
