View Full Version : Help: Scratches on painted metal
BigJayme 03-27-2002, 11:30 PM Hey all. This is my first thread. Uh, not sure if this is actually a Maya question, but I'm trying to add a battle-worn look to my textured M4 Sherman tank (work in progress). I've seen some pretty cool work by others on the net, but I would like some advice as to how to best apply some paint chips, bullet holes, scratches, etc. Thanks!

well theres billions of ways of applying what you want. so ill just throw one up there. I'm a textre junky so :)
if you have a scanner keep the lid on and scan - yes scan nothing. you'll get a hairy scratchy black texture like thing. try throwing that on your tank in the bump channel and/or spec. colour. im sure others would say throw a gradient or something completely made in maya, but who doesn't love textures :D :D
try scanning in some nice coffee stained rings from some paper and use those for bullet holes. again, some may view this as a waist of time and do it a completely different way *shrugs shoulders* what ever works for you :D

try this... take your digital (or not) photo camera, and go to the next scrap (?) or wharf area of your city... you can take a lot of rusty and old metals photographs... and, well use your favorite photo editor program to cut and paste your own paint chips, bullet holes, scratches, etc. ;)
