View Full Version : character: voor of necronomicon
pivot 02-25-2003, 09:52 AM Hello there!
Been working on a character for mye midterm exam
for some weeks now. Finished modelling, texturing
and lighting. Did this spinaround today to get a
better look of my model.
Referance is an ashtray I got from a friend for xmas.
Rigging, animation, modelling of the ashtray itself
and texturing it to come....
I'm not satesfied with the result yet
so critics are more than welcome!

Cool concept,
I like it, but, I think you need more detail with his body in general. It looks to boxy. I hope you understand what I mean, but in his turntable rendering, I am seeing that his body and legs look like they are shoeboxes with rounded edges. I think he needs to have a little bit more defenition with his geometry. But I really dig the idea and think it's cool. I like the render with the book.

Thanx guys!
The deadline for the midterm exam is in the end of May,
so hopefullly I'll have a nice anim ready then.
Most likely you'll hear from me before that.
Any more critics? Like with the texture or the lighting?
There's something missing, but I can't find out what.
Relics: I'll try rounding the characters torso and legs some.
...and btw. Image #2 is a photo ;)

My bad. While I'm comparing, the hat needs to be more puter or silver. The texture on the body looks to fractural. Do something more detailed with it to get over the look it has. Adding alot more details into the body will also help it. The lighting scheme I'm thinking of should be some blues, reds, and drk purples. Try lightinging him with a nice white light fill and use the blue in the front to bring some creepy to him. The Red should be in the back for a danger feel, and purple for a little feeling of comedy. He kinda looks like a troll that is trying to be evil, but some how something silly happens to him when he's about to strike. But that's me. A weird Pixar without Disney disorder.

I defenitely dig the character. Very cool.
I do have some suggestions though. I think the hat needs some more work. The texture on it is very bland and it even looks a bit blurred to me ( could also be the jpeg compression ), it also looks kinda low-poly to me.
And if you have the time for it you might want to give this character a background for it to stand in. A great chracter like this deserves that.

Tnx!
I've been teeking the textures and lighting all day
and I've finally come up with something I'm starting to
be satesfied with. The hat still needs work though, but
It's kinda difficult cuz of lousy UV mapping.
I'll probably settle with the tweeking of that soon.
Some adjustments to the mesh and I'm hopefully there...
Better?

Much better, you still need to add more details in the geometry and texture though.
