Started on a piece for my gf of 4 yrs, would love to hear hard crits and comments (need this to be as perfect as my skills allow) :) Thx in advance!!

Initial brainstorming:

Decided on 2nd thumbnail, started on 1st sketch:

Dug up some reference, adjusted horizon line -- level with guy's head:

Main concern so far would be composition.. need crits before i start hardlining :P

And a little trouble with her arms... i dont want her to look like a skateboarder, more like a figure skater. will figure something out (finding references). Paintovers welcome tho :D

cool concept, glad you got rid of the other lily pads behind her, it almost looked like stepping stones instead of skating. One thing for the girls arms, she does still look like a skateboarder, you might want to check out ballet image references. Skaters take lots and lots of ballet so they can acquire the grace and flow needed in their arm, leg and body movements.

@Ivy: Thanks for the feedback! Hehe you're right, i actually had a stepping stones concept in mind initially, only with lilies. Then i thought skating on 1 leaf would be cool.

I checked out some skating pics, n they turned out to be not the kinda of movement i really want. (I guess I forgot they move so much/fast in figure skating, was just thinking of "graceful") So i went over to tight-rope walking and that worked instead :)

Goin for that floating-lighter-than-water-step-feeling...Looks like i'll have to change the title back to "Lily-walking" :P

Small progress update. A little makeover for the girlie, frilly-fied the dress...
I love painting trees, but i REALLY find it tedious to give them solid outlines. It's gonna be a loooooong time before i get it done hehe.

So... I couldnt resist and gave up drawing outlines for each leaf XD started painting over the lines instead :P
Then i got a little carried away and finished up the girlie

And Google images was kind enough to provide me with a spanking new Moon! :D
