View Full Version : Displacement Speed comparisons

I'm working on figuring out which displacement method is best for what situation. This first test is a simple benchmark test. Each of the sphere's were actually rendered seperately, but for display purposes they were rendered together. The sphere is an imported model and the shader tree consists of only a noisette procedural tied into the bump node.

I'm rendering on a AMD Turion ML-40 with 2 gigs of RAM.

So far for this basic test the pregenerated option is rendering with the greatest speed as you can see below and in the attached image..

Here are the speed comparisons in minutes.seconds format:

Pregenerated: 1.15
PLR: 1.41
Default: 1:21

Wegg pointed out that the displacement was not obvious. So here is a render with amped bump settings. So the displacement is more obvious. Results are equivalent to the first test.
