I know I could do some multipass rendering manually, but this is not suffisent. It has to be possible to do a particle pass, an reflection, transparency etc and also a background pass. In Softimage XSI you can do that very easy, are there really no possibilites in Lightwave to do this much faster and more accurate? Because if I do it manually I have to change settings and the result is rather a change of settings than multipass rendering.

there is a plugin that saves these passes. Check out the image filter plugins

If you find you need more control than the standard Lightwave options for rendering out seperate passes there's also a tool for Lightwave called CompAssistant which I think is quite reasonably priced and they have a demo version.

The new feature in 7.3 PS exporter, does it renders out the image in multipasses in Photoshop format like that of Cinema4D?

Dunno but Lightwave needs something like XSI render management tools. Until newtek explains more on the PS exporter, then Lw is still in the dark.

CompAssist is a good idea.

There is a multirendering plugin at Flay.com

Its better than Lw's because it will renderout during an animation.

You could check a handy free plug "MultiPazzes" written by my friend Lukasz Pazera:

And you could check an interview with him performed a few days ago on Newtek site ;)

Thanks for the replies. Well I have now Compassistant2. Does anyone know how now can render in multiple passes, which means not only with different objects, but the real "passes": transparency pass, reflection pass......"`?

go to the image filters in layout, choose the 'render buffer export' plugin, choose the type of pass and the filename you want. It will export a sequence (so yes, it works for animation)

You can add as many of these export plugs as you want.
