View Full Version : Problem with my bumpmap
Nas-T 02-05-2007, 11:26 PM hello, ive textured a model, and made a bumpmap. Most of the bumpmap are just 1 pixel black lines.
In game, or when rendering, the bump effect looks a bit.. well weird.. its not just a line.. well.. look for yourself... Is there any way to fix that? (Look at all the edges)

Try increasing the size of your bump map, it may be a resolution issue (ie, your bump map is too small). This will mean your bump lines should be larger that 1 pixel wide.
What 3d software and renderer are you using?

I am using 3DSMax and was using the standard renderer (F9)
But indeed... it seems, that after i have softened the lines .. those ugly effects decrease...

Ah, ok then. Well, glad it's looking better, but max's scanline renderer has always had problems getting clean bump maps. For an article discussing the subject, go here...

Unfortunately, if you want crisp but alias-free bump, you'll probaby have to go with a different renderer, such as brazil.
