Allo Poppet 02-05-2007, 10:43 AM Hey guys, this is a piece ive been workin on for a few weeks for my showreel.
I wanted to show various cycles (walk/jog/sprint) but alltogether in a funny little sketch.
Any feedback welcome, hope you enjoy

thats great mate, I love it. Personally I find it a little frustrating that it doesnt seem to 'end'. Great stuff tho, funny.

lol thanks for the response, glad you like it. Yeah i should have mentioned, I left it open so you dont know if he reached the button or not. Then at the end while the credits are displayed I'm going to show a sillouette of him still sprinting away to add a last little gag. Wanted to avoid the cliche 'sends him flying off screen' ending.
do you think that'l work?

Hi Wayne,
I took a look at your website, then watched this animation - i think its quite a big step up from your demo reel. this looks quite a bit better.
Ive gotta say, the whole treadmill gag has been done to death i think - you see it a lot in peoples reels and websites.. although you have managed to do it well, so congrats!
i think what makes this animation quite good are his expressions, theyre very clear, and well timed.

Thanks alot for your comments, and for taking the time to look at my site. Its in major need of updating i know, some old uni stuff on that site mainly lol. But im glad theres a visual improvement, thanks.
I hadn't seen a treadmill thing on a showreel before, lol, sorry for the un-originality, il do more research before my next piece. :)
Thanks a million anyway. any other comments more than welcome

glad you liked it. Took a look at your reel, do you have your own thread i can comment into? just to keep this one on topic?
Overall it was promising, main critiques were the length (keep it nice and short showing purely the most impressive stuff) about 1min30 is a nice length. The other thing was shots like the scorpion clip. nice animation but its hidden by the fog. Its a nice touch for an effects reel, but for an animation reel, make sure we can see everything all the time

Hi,
Good job, the animation is really nice. The only thing i would suggest is putting a bit more forward lean in his hips when the run starts to spead up. I think this would really help show the increase in speed.especially if the lean forwards increases as the speed increases.
Looks really good though

cheers chris, I'l try it and see what happens. the only reason i restricted from a forward lean is because the sudden change of pase takes him by suprise meaning he wouldnt prepare his body as much and be flug backwards more than leaning into it. But at the end of the day, whatever looks better, il experiment.
cheers for the comments tho, glad you liked it

Hey Wayne! hows it going mate. i think you should move the shoulders and hips a lil bit more and i find that the snap in its left leg a lil too much as opposed to his right leg, when he lifts his toes and its snaps back just as he put his leg back on the ground, as he walks...damn i hope im making sense
planning to animate more with the guy? hes a pretty cool looking model

Hey mate, thanks for stoppin by! Yeah Im guna try and add more to the rotations i think, exaggerate them slightly more, I kinda get you lol
And yeah I think my next showreel piece will include him too, in a similar kind of comedy acting sketch, but this time showing weight instead of cycles. Hes a wicked rig
Hope your well

I agree with the shoulder/hip movement comments, and also, the feet should slap down in one frame from when the heel hits the ground at contact position.
Nice work though. I like it. A more solid ending would definately benefit this, even it it's simple, like him falling off and coming to a settle.

cheers for the comments. Yeah the ending is weak but will be better in the context of the showreel, i wanted to leave him running and then at the end while the credits are going up you'l see him still on the treadmill sprinting away, to add a last gag.
Thanks though.
