I've recently started learning Max and wondered if anyone has had much luck learning from books, I tried Maya and really didn't get along with the book I bought. Now doing Max one evening a week at college and getting on so much better. Just want to do some extra stuff, is there anything really helpful that anyone can recommend or anything to steer well clear of ? Thanks

if you can spare the cash, i highly recommend you purchase some video training DVDs . Depending on what you're after, www.cg-academy.com has quality video training DVDs for Max. There are plenty of free written and video tutorials on the net too. just search around these forums and google some stuff.

Thanks Gravey,

I hadn't really considered DVD's, anything particular that is good and easy to follow for a relative newbie ? A friend mentioned the on line tutorials but I just haven't had the time to look yet.

For a great 3DS Max fundamentals DVD set head over to 3dbuzz.com (http://www.3dbuzz.com). They have a DVD set that walks you through 3 instructor led projects and several smaller side projects -- totaling over 100 hours of instruction. It's only $99.00. It was $250.00 but they reduced the price for the holidays. It may go back up soon.

Read the details that breakdown what is taught on the DVD's. A very great deal for the money.

You can also try heading over to 3d-palace.com (http://www.3d-palace.com) they have a nice selection of free 3ds max tutorials as well as very reasonably priced tutorial sets.

Good luck!
