hey xuto, nice work. that doggy is really cute. the artwort, the renders and animation are awesome, no critiques there. however, i didn't like the sound mixing. her strange voice as these ugly cartoon "boings" crash the cool atmosphere.
another lacking point is the storytelling. this "hunter fails to catch victim"-situation has seen seen too many times imo. i found that boring, sorry :)
anyway, impressive!

Really enjoyed that! Lighting and character animation was very impressive. I liked the tip of the hat it was obviously giving to the old "coyote/road runner" cartoons!

Well, what can I say? It's just superb. Everything is so well balanced and so well done. Usually when you see a student short film there's some aspect that is not so polished as it could be. Animation, lighting, colors, this piece is just a joy!!!
Can you share any more infos on it? Any making of videos of images ?
Congratulations again.
Gian
PS: moderators I've started the countdown for the front page :D

Hey man, I don't know what you are talking about! Its extremely hard nowadays to make something original or completely original. We are all bombarded with imagery and stories constantly making it harder and harder to some up with anything never been done before. Also as you watch most films and adverts etc. you'll find that most things have been repeated or "borrowed" off of something before.
Hey Xufo, this is mighty impressive! Everything works well like people have mentioned and it was worth the download. Hats off to you.

great job!
i'm not such a big fan of the idea, but this kind of story works always in a short. the rendering and the modeling are quite impressive. regarding the animation i think there is too many overlaps, i would prefer had more simple animation without all this secondary motion. This is a fact which is mostly seen on the cartoony short, people seems constraint to place lots of overlaps to show how their character are well rigged.
But this short stand well executed, so congrats again.

i talk about my opinion. you're right, it's really hard "invent" something new, but that's not what i was talking about. i meant the way the story is told lacks in certain aspects, but that's more a question about the dramaturgy maybe.
again, congatulations xufo, stunning animation and technically top notch!
Very nice work. Loved the overall theme and the lighting and textures where fantastic. The animation was very smooth as well. not too fond of the sounds the main character made but it worked..:)

very good... amazing short... what's render engine?
Hi and thanks to everybody for the comments!!
I´ve posted some new images of the shortfilm in the first post and a link to the Shortfilm on Dailymotion, i hope you enjoy it.
I´ll try to reply some of the questions:
Spyxx: The render engine used is mental ray and maya software, but there is a lot of work in composition with about 7 render layers. Soon i´ll put a link with a little making off about the composition.
liquidik: You can find more info and images on this blog http://bunglejungle.blogspot.com/
Forcemaster2000: Yeah!! Road runner cartoons and Tom & Jerry was a great inspiration in the shortfilm.
And for some general comments about the audio and sound effects, i agree, i´ve tried to do it with a proffesional studio but it cannot be possible.
If someone have more questions i´m pleased to reply it.
Thanks again for all the comments and excuse my poor english!!
See you soon!!

Hola Miquel,
Es espectacular el curro que te la producció. Encara s'em cau la baba.
Ja era hora que el nivell pugi en el nostra país.
Enhorabona per tot...!!!
Congratulations on the film.
It looks wonderful - I especially adore the tiny dino/dog. But... (and of course this is IMO) there are some elements that let it down.
Firstly, as others have pointed out, it's very clichéd. Not just the story but also the actions, reactions & poses of the characters. Secondly the pacing/editing is a quite jarring. The shot of the 'prey' being knocked out has little continuity to the next of him curled up & the following shot of the main character leaning down to pick him up, to the establishing shot of him holding him seems as though we've missed something. Thirdly, the scene where he flies off of the plunger is very odd. It doesn't look as though the character's weight has made him do this but some unseen force.
Having said that you've created an impressive volume of work & the effort you've put into it is marvellous.

Hey, well done. I enjoyed the short. The animation was very well done. I was slightly distracted by all the little sound effects, but it wasn't enough for me to stop watching ;) Congrats on a very well done short and good luck to you. I'm interested to see what else you show us down the line.

Not bad, the only thing that I think needs serious improvement is directing and supervising, there's some plots that don't come over like they should, also, some animation, although well done, need better timing, to really get all the comedy from the shot, for instance the one where the main character is smacked against the tree and then falls down and shoots up.
Btw, the sss on that character is very well done, the character is amazing, I really love the look of it, very nice, I will use this character for inspiration no doubt!

yeah I second him on that absolutely stunning images excellent animation but the story lacked the depth may be if the actions were staged well and if the characters were introduced in a nicer way that could have helped otherwise its top notch
I wish i had some thing like that on my show reel
excellent work -keep it up

uhmm tarzan?
is it me or does the main character strikingly resemble a young tarzan? i would definitely be interested to see the concept art for the piece
the visuals are very nice, the animation is a bit too much at times it comes across as someone whos trying to do slapstick instead of someone who just IS doing slapstick. sorry if that sounds vague but thats the best way i can explain it.
congrats on the plug
keep going

Great job! It's a ton of hard work making a complete short and your effort really shows.
Particularly impressive to me, is the snake rig/animation wrapping up the main character. Can you elaborate on how you rigged the snake for animation?
Wonderful job. Good luck in the future!

Maybe the same comment, but really, a very nice work :) Good luck with it :)
I agree with what everyone is saying about the sound effects but when you watch it silently the story still conveys well because the acting is done well, congrats on that. The visual style is beautiful, i love the level of semi-realism you created and you didn't push it to far.
How did you set up the sets? Did you have matte paintings in the background or are the distant trees all modelled? Also what kind of filter did you run over the final cut?

Very good job, The lipsinc is really great!!!
In my opinion, Animation and naration can be improved, some moments are too much long, and i think some animations are "too much".
It's a very good short film.
Congratulations.

I watched your short and I really dug the color scheme and the look of the characters were very appealing, lighting, rendering, etc. But.....
It looks like this is another one of those, "Its cool but looks like they spent alot of time on the rendering here dude...."
You should really have another pass on the animation for this piece. Clean it up! Its a shame bc it really just brings down the whole short. The little things. The characters are great and really have alot of potential. They are begging to be animated well. But your missing some basics here. For one thing right off the bat, the very first shot where the little dinosaur is walking, his knees are popping. Soften that up a bit. Another thing, wheres the secondary movement on the shifting of the weight for the characters in general? Watch the arrow hitting the tree sequence and youll see what I mean. I could go on and on here but the fundamentals need apply; anticipation, squash and stretch, timing and spacing, etc. Tighten that up man and youll have something really nice there.
Also, the sounds effects are way too distracting. They would be appropriate if you were using them for a cartoon from the 40's or a slapstick comdey short. But seriously. Get rid of those all together. Most peoples shorts dont have sound effects for that very reason. But if u must have sound, turn down the volume of the soundtrack. Its a bit distracting as well.

wow man. your character is very disney. reminds me of young tarzan in a few shots. really nice job on everything. especially the character models and lighting. very impressive.
Hi and thanks again for all the comments!!
In the first post theres some new links with a little making of video about composition process, i hope you enjoy it!!
Krisr: The hair set up its made with dinamic curves, using some collision spheres on the kid´s shoulders and ears.
Slurry: I´ve done some different set up on the snake depends on the shot, direct fk controls, ik spline, the geometry trough a path and animating the curve points of the path and a mix of.
Animating the snake was a most difficult thing in the shortfilm.
gman: yes, ther are matte paintings in the background. in the making off video you can see how the sets are done. Now, i dont remember how it names de filter. I´ll try to respond quickly.
Thanks again, and i´m waiting for more crits, opinions and questions.
See you soon.
