CGTalk - Fill and laoding

I am a newbie to photoshop so bear with me. Can someone tell me how to fill a layer with a pattern and how to load a pattern as a selection in photoshop.

I would be most greatful if someone could answer this. Thanx

essentially, both of your questions are the same.
To fill a layer, Ctrl-A on the layer which will select the entire layer. The do a EDIT>FILL>PATTERN.

For a selection, same thing, make your selection and EDIT>FILL>PATTERN. Once you have it filled, you can make a new pattern out of your patterned selection.
