Hey guys

Please have a look at this Dino.

My question is - which real living animal would you
consider to be the best reference for creating a run cylce.

I will not say which animal i think of cause i want to hear your
objective opinion.

Your hints are appreciated.

P.S I think the "monster" is something about 5 meters long
and he is a carnivore....

def NOT a croc or alligator even thopugh it looks like one at first glance the legs are NOT
the same..croc's legs are typcally lizzard like...

Hmm..let me have a think!

A dinosaur, of course.

Barring that, I think the forelegs kind of hang down like a monkey's when it is running, alternating between two and four legs. Still, that would look funny on that animal.

I am also kind of reminded of a lion, the way it is balancing with the front two legs.

Are you sure the dino would be bending down like that to run?
It looks to me like he would be constantly banging his chin on the ground!
I think, looking like that, the only time he would be running on all fours would be when he was running up a steep hill (like a child running up some stairs).

Aren't those long tails supposed to be counterbalances for the rest of their body's as they run around on 2 legs?

If that is the case, you should try looking at some ostrich running, and maybe even some kangaroo's, perhaps, for the arm reference...? ?

hey guys thanks for your comments.

Okay at first the facts i know.
This dinosaur is always going on four feets. This is something i definately know. He is also able to straighten hisself up ( a bit like a bear but not that extreme)

Animating the walk is not the problem i think, but im
still considering about the run cycle.

Hey cresshead

Yeah the legs are not the same. His front legs are shorter than
his hind legs.

I am also kind of reminded of a lion, the way it is balancing with the front two legs

Yeah man, thats what i also think, at least a bit of a lion.

Are you sure the dino would be bending down like that to run

Yeah mate, im 100% sure of that. Perhaps the picture is a bit confusing
sorry for the bad reference pic.

Aren't those long tails supposed to be counterbalances for the rest of their body's as they run around on 2 legs

Nope i dont think so - many animals have longer or shorter tails in
order to balance and to change the weighting while running (moving)
I mean there are plenty of dinos walking like a quadruped and having
a tail. Again mate - these are only the facts i know - not much but thats all i can definately say.

Here are two beta animations, very rough but i think you get
the idea.

Here the walk test

and the very "rough" run animation.

All secondary animations are not implemented yet
( Head / Tail etc - movements)
