Hey all,

In order to clean up the game-art forum and polish it up I've decided to put all current stickie threads into this one single Valuable Threads Stickie.
New threads that are valuable can be added to this list and nobody needs to have them misplaced since they're all here where everybody can find them :)

Cheers,

Yves

Cool

Since I had a link tab in Mozilla of this game forum, I though I was in the wrong forum till I looked closer :D

Whew, for a second there I thought I killed the 'Stuff you're working on' thread. :surprised

This was a very good idea, Equinoxx. Now I won't have to scroll down just to see the latest threads.

That's one of the main reasons I did this.
Being a forum leader I have no banners but with the banners and the site headers and the browserframe AND the stickies, that's too much something had to give in order to bring attention back to the wip threads.

Be advised that once everyone seems to have seen this I will clean and lock this thread (again, for polishing reasons)

but that will take a while.

glad that 2/2 are positive reactions :)

thanks for doing this!

one suggestions, maybe rename the thread to...

"Valuable Game Art Threads"

or

"Valuable Game Art Threads/How To/Guidelines"

...something so when people bookmark the thread [as they should] they know what it is by name alone.

Nice move...

Though I'd say the Stuff you're working on thread should have stayed where it was as the the rest of the threads/topics in here tend to more on techniques and how too's as well as topic specific discussions. Whereas the Stuff you're working on is more of a general WIP gallery thread. If you did move it back, I'd make it (Stuff you're working on) a sticky as well so that doesn't get lost on page 3 for example.

As it is now, there doesn't seem to be any way of seeing if there has been a new post in that thread.

Anyway good idea... a nice bit of spring cleaning never hurt.

I have to agree with Mindrot on the 'Stuff you're working on' thread,it would be nice to keep that in the public eye

good feedback.

I've renamed this thread to

"Valuable Game Art Threads/How To/Guidelines"
(great thinking and ever so more clearer about the content)

also moved back the stuff you're working on as I agree that it's more a general
wip thread then a game-art resource (theory)

Hi! I got some qustions about preparing texture for games. I read somewhere that is best to prepare the texture size to the power of 2? So what if I using 1024 X 1024 jpg szie on to building object and one of the building have more texture element need and I can place them all in 1 jpg file. What do I do? Do I scale it down? But if I do that the quiltly of the 2 buildings will be different. No?

Hello all

I'm currently developing a Group on Vimeo called the Video Game Vault http://www.vimeo.com/groups/vgv

I want fellow professionals, rookies, students and fans to join up so we can discuss techniques, swap tips, present work (legally approved of course) and show off our game art!

My background (and current Career Orientation) is in the Pre Production side of things - Concept Art, Storyboards, Pitch Movies, Proof of Concepts artwork.

It would be great to see you guys on there

Cheers

Any advice or guidelines in Story Telling, Game Script or Game Concept

That would be great, recenlty the some creator of LucasFlim's Grim Fandango release the un-cut original game script for the game, larger than the final game, was nice to way they work in this point and click game, anyone who knows examples like this one?

What is the pipeline for the current game modeling? I know that 2 models are created, one high poly (for sculpting) and the other low poly ( for game ). My question is do we start modeling from the high poly and than reduce and retapo from there or from low poly and subdivide it up for sculpting? Or do we recreate both high and low-poly model from scratch?

not to long ago, Tim Schaefer released the puzzle document for the game Grim Fandango (free to download)...
