Title: The Swedish Beast
Name: Iņaki Karras
Country: Spain
Software: 3ds max

STRV-122 B made in MAX 3.1, for this render the time was about 5 min. 48". The scene have 91 focus made with E-Light script of Ronnie " Skyraider3D" & 1 miserable omni :-)
The polycount it's about 2 millions polys and the background picture, it's made by Helanker from Renderosity website.
Made By Iņaki Karras for my collection of tanks in 3D. The winter camo coming soon, because the swedish army use two schemes in summer & winter.
C&C are welcomes.

Max 3.1?..wow that was almost a decade ago lol..it's about time for an upgrade wouldn't you say?..anyway..the model is done nicely, but the render could be improved on, you can definitely tell the tank isn't composited enough with the background..overall though it's nice.

looking as that's realism ......Max3.1 ....It's the old version ...I felt light of the shadow is not very good. but the overall effect is very good. well done.

I have to give you some cudos for this, Kas. Very well done.
Not only because I'm Swedish and of course am a bit biased about you
doing such a nice Swedish Army Tank, but also because I think you
prove an old military device "It's not who has the best weapon that wins,
it's the one that knows how to handle it". (Or something like that... hehe).
Of course I'm thinking of that you use the old Max 3.1.

Very well done.

Don'w know if you have seen this but:
http://www.mil.se/?lang=E (The Swedish armed forces)
http://www.hobby.se/sphf/fordon.html (Some pictures)
http://hem.passagen.se/pgroen/army.htm (Some info and pictures).

As you might know; strv stands for stridsvagn, battle tank in English.
strf is stridsfordon, battle vehicle in English.
pbv is pansarbandvagn and is equivalent to the English APC.

I did my military service in an armoured regiment so if there is anything you want to know, just pm me and I'll try to answer.

Thank you azynkron, I really made only two swedish tanks, STRV-103 & STRV-122B, but I catch all possible info about your army for made them. Now I'm searching for the CV-90 info, the oponent to our Pizarro :-)

You're welcome :)

Yes, I've seen your 103 as well..
The strv103 (or Strv S) was a battle tank designed for defensive fighting. With it's low profile and turretless design it dug in, waited to get a shot and then backed out of the cover. As such it was almost perfect. It had a shovel on the front so that it could dig it's own cover. Should be pretty easy for you to attach that.

The problem with that tank was that it suffered from many technical problems mainly because it was a bit ahead of it's time. Amongst other it's turbine engine was expensive and hard to maintain. It also had problems with leaks of hydralic fluid inside. Once I spoke to a driver of a 103 and he said that they preferred to wear rubber boots instead of their ordinary army boots when they were in the tank because of that.
At the time we also had Strv-104 (the British Centurion) and in the end the 103 was scrapped and only the 104 was kept in service until we bought the 121 and 122.

We field tested several tanks before deciding on the Leopard. Abrams, Challenger 2 and Leclerc had a run for their money. In the end the only tank that suited the Swedish environment was the Leopard 2. The bang for the buck also played a part I suppose but as you know, the Leopard2 is a formidable tank that can give any modern tank a fair fight.
Remember, Abrams was up against mainly the obsolete T-72 in Iraq/Kuwait.. and you could hardly call that a modern tank even if you wanted to.

The Swedish army also has done several modifications to the standard Leopard2. Some are kept a secret so I don't really know all of them.
