View Full Version : Mo-Cap
srproductions 02-03-2007, 04:21 AM Hey All!
I need to know how to apply a BVH mocap file to my character that is not rigged. If it's not possible, then I need to know how to apply it to my rigged character. Thanks!

I'm not sure if LightWave have any built-in support for BVH-files. However, you should be able to load BVH into MotionBuilder and from there export as FBX. To do that, you export your rigged character from LightWave to FBX and use the BVH file to drive the LightWave character inside Motionbuilder. Once that is done, you simply plot the animation and export to a new FBX wich you then merge with the rigged character inside LightWave.

You can load .bvh data into layout without any problem (its in the file->import menu). Just be sure auto-key is turned on. Then you change the root, so your character is the new root, adjust the bones in the first frame so it corresponds to your character (and reset pos/rot). And your set!

Wow! Never saw LW had support for BVH! :)
Just opened the web-based manual and searched and there it was! Thanks for the heads up, Sniffet!

Mocap works great in Lightwave though you'll need to use weightmaps and tidy up the data in the graph editor :)
