Is there a way to set a user defined slider for something like the Xpresso scorpion tail tutorial? I would like to use something like that to drive a head and neck side to side and up and down motion.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. This is not that hard. Lets see if I can describe it to you and not confuse us both. I just did this with a character I have been working on. Here is an example. Create a bone. Add a null object and call it "bone slider". While the null is selected in the Attributes manager click on User Data and select Add Usere Data. This gives you your User Data Menu to set up a slider. Name this somthing relavent like "Bone Rotation H". Leave Data Type to Float and change Interface to Float Slider. Change Unit from percent to degree and put max to 360. Click O.K. Now give the null object an Xpresso tag. Drop the Null object ("bone slider") into the expresso Editor window and drop the bone into the Xpressto Editor also. In the Expresso Editor click on the null Objects ("bone slider") output port and go down to the bottom and you will see User Data and in its submenu will be Whatever you named the slider-"Bone Rotation H". Now under the Bone input port select Cordinates>Rotation>RotationH. Link the ports and when you select the null object name "BoneSLider" in your attributes manager there will be a slider. You can then apple click on the user data entry to get to edit and set your degree as needed for you slider. Say -14 to +80. Just ask some more questions if you are lost.

Thanks for the info. I tried doing that and it DOES work. To get a smooth rotation for, say, an entire neck, seems to take a lot of work.

If you use the Set Driven/Set Driver method it takes seconds to set up, I just wish I could somehow make a slider out of that. If you look at the scorpion tail tut you'll know what I mean.

In the scorpion tail example Add User Data to Bone1 and then drop it into the Xpresso Editor twice. Grab the user data from the output port in one and connect it to the relavent input port of the other.

I'll give that a try!

I'm using this on a dinosaur rig. I think I used just about every trivk Cinema has to do this. Soft IK on the tail, PoseMixer for arms, hands, and feet, "regular" IK for the legs, and Set Driven Keys and Xpresso for the neck and head...and still not finished!!

Hi Guys,

I know I didn't pop the question, but thanks for the info - Xpresso just became a little bit clearer.

Cheers,
