CGTalk - Intro Letter Animation

I am trying to make a letter animation, as an intro to a film clip. I got the letters falling down, but I don't know what to do after. I tried the Explosion FX deformer, but seeing as I can't make the floor (or at least an invisible plane) a collider, I have no idea what to do. Any ideas?
