View Full Version : Finished 3D Cartoon Music Video
GetToTheTop 02-01-2007, 08:00 PM I used Maya for animating, modeling and texturing. I think I really love animating and I think that's the field I will concentrate on. I didn't do any rendering, just regular playblasting and then imported the clips in Adobe Premiere. This was a project I did for a college course, we were asked to do a 1-5 minute film and I decided to make a 3 min 19 sec video with my music in the background. I created a character model of me, I thought it'd be pretty cool watching me animated. :) I just want to share my 3D music video with you guys so you can critique on how I can improve. Here it is:

Honestly I don't know what to make of it.
It can't quite get a feeling for what style you are going for.
The editing and camera moves are very good.
Models are a little too simplistic for a video relying on so many close-ups.
If there was more movement (dancing for example) you could probably get away with that.

Finally, omg, thanks for the criticism.
What do you mean by what style I'm going for? you mean you don't know if I'm trying to have realistic or cartoonish style? I was actually attempting to create both.
So you think that characters that are not detailed should not be shown in close up?

Quoted for agreement...
You have stated you want to focus on animation so I'll try to focus on what I see with regards to that only. To be honest I only watched half of it and I see the animation is limited, so it seems strange that that is your focus. Movements need to be more fluid, and your characters should be moving almost constantly, utilizing as many subtlties as you can. Really study your subject matter, by finding in this case good music videos for this type of music and watch how real people move when they perform. Having said that I think your let down by your character rigging, everything is too basic to create the flow and pump the subject is begging for. It sounds like you just beginning so learn more about designing and building characters, rigging, and animation. Then people will be able to give you a more focused critique.
