Hey all-
I know that I can change the resolution size in the render globals, but is there a way to change the render dpi for higer-quality renders? For example, right now all my renders come out at 72 dpi. As long as I was working with stills, what I'd do is that that image into photosho and convert it to, say, 300 dpi by changing the size and res there.
However, now that I'm rendering out a short (about 12,000 frames), I don't want to do that 12,000 times over.
Is there a setting somewhere that I can change? Or is this something I can't affect in Maya's built-in renderer?

I don't really understand why you'd want to do this. DPI is a hypothetical construct for print and only exists in those file formats that support it. Since you're not going to be printing every single frame of your animation, why would this matter? It will have no effect on your animation, and if you need to print till frames you could just go through and set up the DPI in photoshop individually.

If I've missed something, please say and I'll try to help.:)

That's all right. It was mostly a question of curiosity. I just wanted to see if it could be done.

i dont think maya (or max/lightwave/xsi) have any controls for changing the dpi....everything renders at 72dpi

you will have to change it using photoshop.....you can create an action script to batch change as many images as you need but i dont know how to do this

As pointed out, DPI only is relevant in print applications. You can render at higher resolutions just by setting your render globals to render more pixels.

If you need to print the resulting images, you'll have to use Photoshop or a similar program to set the DPI setting in the image file format you choose to use, but doing so won't change the number of pixels in the image, just its size on the page.

Mushroomgod, you just have to make a new action for what you want to do. Then put all the images you want the action done to in a folder and go to file>automate>batch process. Choose the action u just created at the top, the rest is pretty self explanatory. It's a great feature when you need to change a lot of images the exact same way.
