Title: The Mysterious Cave.
Name: Rory Lane Lutter
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop
"the dry smell of broken earth lingers round the chasm's mouth. The local drifter white with fear assures us there was no hole here. Of course he's been wrong before, like when he said he saw that UFO. The suits and coats have gathered now to investigate this hole in the ground. Who knows what they think they'll find, but this whole thing doesn't feel right."
-Tim Blacktone, united construction inc.-
I made this drawing for practice as usual. The most challenging things about it for me was drawing from a perspective that I am not used to, and in trying to achieve the feel of out-door lighting. I left the creature in the tunnel intentionally indescript in order to persevere some amount of mystery of what's at the bottom of the cave.
6 hours in Photoshop CS1.

I think you pulled of the perspective, very well. Nice textures though out the whole piece too. But why do I feel like I should be yelling at the top of my lungs to the people on the top to "RUN!"?

Very well done! I really like the textured look you have in this one. My only suggestions are to fixe the perspective of the contruction guy between the white van and the tow truck/crane(?) it looks as though he is falling back. I think you can have more fun with the lighting within the cave near the creature. Let the light catch a few more sharp edges of rock. Great job over all.

ploink34- quite right about the "run" comment. Check back tomorrow ;) hehe
Jose-Pardo- OMG you are SOOO Right!.... Wow, how didn't I notice that... I guess I was too anxious to move on to the next drawing.
Thanks so much for your comments :)

Great piece and I always appreciate a good time lapse. Congratulations and thanks.
And how long did it actually take you?

I've just looked at your portfolio and you've painted the next moment in the illustration! Nice Idea! :)

siouxfire- Well thank you :). In the time lapse video every second is a minute so if I painted continuously it would have taken 6 hours. In actuality i spend a fair amount of time staring at the drawing with the capture program paused, and I do watch the time lapse video on occasion to help me come up with what to do next. I think it's safe to add another 3 hours worth of pondering what to do next, and maybe another 2 hours of surfing the internet... looking at other people's artwork. The drawing was done primarily in 3 separate sessions, one on Saturday Night, a little bit on Monday, and quite a bit on Tuesday.

cool image!
I'd only add that the cliff on the right side of the picture might work better with brighter light, to reinforce the sense of clossiness to the spectator, or height...

Rudds-- Yeah :). I just didn't feel right to not draw the monster, but I kind of liked the mystery and suspense of not showing it so... 2 drawings. Drawing the monster is my favorite part too. Didn't feel right cheating myself of it.
harachte-- It's funny that you say that because it used to be brighter then the rest of the rocks but I changed the other rocks to match. Logically it seemed to make sense, but I forgot about the value of atmospheric perspective.
Thanks for the comments :)
