Hello all..

Im learning how to Rig my character by Maya´s help. And I had a problem.

When I made, I moved the Ik handle, it was bending the elbow normal..

But now I made something in the model, that I dont know what.. Its not bending anymore.. its rigid.. Like that wasnt a Joing there to bend...

Since I dont know if my english will be good enought to explain the problem, I made this animated gif to show the moviment that is not bending the arm anymore:

Sorry thats a really basic question, but its a good step to me start understanding better how to Rig on maya.

thank you!

The arm rig might have been perfectly straight when the IK was applied, leaving it no room to interpolate the bend.
Try slightly bending the elbow in the direction you want and then applying the IK.

You might have reset the preferred angle on your joint, this usually happens when you accidentally right click on a joint and invoke the marking menu.

You can try setting the preffered angle attribute in the attribute editor of your elbow joint to see if that works. If not, you may have to reapply your ik by deleting the previous and zeroing the rotates of your arm joints, then applying ik.

happens sometimes to me too, when I duplicate the joints and aply the ik to the duplicate chain. I tried to mess with the set preferred angle, but now I will try again...
