Hi..

I´m not calling me a professional, but I have been working with several 3d-apps for the last 10 years..

Im currently working in cinema 4d r8 with a short commercial that needs a character walking.. no problems i thougt, because i´ve done a few with apps like lightwave, animation master and 3dstudio.. but I run into problems here.. :(

I´ve checked every tutorial that I have found on the net.. ( actually , only found one..), tried to follow tutorial in the manual..
..but, i dont get it...( getting old..perhaps..)

I get following errors when trying to rig my character

When I move one of my goals, everything else is moving.. why..
I´ve done the Tail-tutorial with success, but when trying to adapt that to my character with more than one limb.. it gets all messed up.. ( as I said.. moving foot-goal.. everything starts moving..(rotates around the root/pelvis.. yes, its anchored..)

So.. any tips.. any links to good tutorials.. ( I dont want to drop cinema4d for this.. because everything else is just fine.. :D)

--you should take a look at the tutorial in the Mocca Handbook (check if you have the pdf-file if you dont have the manual yet, the tutorial was in the 8.012 version--if you still bave 8.001 then contact Maxon ) where softIK is explained very well and it all makes sense--
SoftIK was a little hard to understand for me first, but I dont want to live without it anymore.

don´t know if this helps
but the most important thing to move just one objekt of your bone-tree is to check the ancor in the attribute manager for the bonechain you want to move

for example
if you have set up a whole skeleton you make the uppermost bone of each leg (femoral-bone / oberschnekel-bone) an anchor bone
are you sure you have the "tutorial_MOCCA_EN/DE/..."
the tutorial by naam that explains how to set up the french guy.

this one is your only chance to get into soft-ik in c4dXL8
at the moment ... I think

if you are reffering to Mime-guy.. Yes i have...

OK so here is some more thoughts.

Noticed that when I loaded AnimFrame0Final.c4d, pressed F8 ( to play) then tried to move some goals, i got the same errors/faults..
Then I noticed that if I used "use object tool" instead of "use inverse kinematic tool" it seemed to work better..
So.. I shall try this on my character to see if it works better..
could this be it?.. ill be back :D

One more.. Should i do like the book does.. setting up one bone segment at the time..( legs, then spine and last the arms..)?

OK.. this maybe is basic for most Cinema guys n gals..

But it seem that use object tool did the trick..
( using lightwave fo the past 2 years.. with inverse kinematic tool always pressed.. ;))

Hi,
the inverse kinematic tool is only usefull with the old (hard) IK not with Soft IK. Sorry if that isn't mentioned in the manual :/

Well.. I would´nt hang anyone.. ;) I just think that the manual is a bit thin for the subject..

I´m on the right track now anyway.. thanks!

Right click (cmd click on mac) on the left toolbar and select Edit palettes. Now double click on the IK button, and close the edit palettes window. Problem solved ;-)

The old IK tool should (almost) never be used with the new soft IK system.

the IK tool should never be used ever IMO. even in XL 7 I made my own IK using expressions and naam's puppeteer, fact is the IKtool is horrible and should never be used.

--still have to add my 2 cents--
Because i think that , no matter how thin, the softIK part of the Mocca-manual is very well done and gives a good insight into rigging.

The explanation of Motionmixer, Posemixer and so on is not good, though.
Actually it is no explanation but a mentioning ,-).
This need some more explanation or will leave a lot of people that do not browse the forums frustrated.
