Hey everyone, this is my first digital painting... I don't have much experience with traditional painting either so I can use all the help I can get. I have a moderate amount of experience with texture painting so I'm using what I've learned there and applying it here.

This piece is for a class assignment themed Evidence and Desire. I'm not too into the whole deep and meaningful painting thing so the way this painting reflects Evidence and Desire is pretty simple: The little girl sees that the dragon desires to be free as evidence of him being all tied up around the tree. His horns will have bandages and cracks to imply that he's a bit of a clumsy dragon.

Well, I'm still very early in the painting so anything will help. I'm looking for common steps I should take to progress through the painting effeciently, helpful techniqes, etc. Thanks for your time everyone! :)

Small update. The brown area on the dragon will be the base color for his under belly, it'll be alot lighter in the end. I went ahead and painted his pupils in and refined the wrinkles on his face. I also fixed his right horn... the angle didn't seem correct.

Sorry about the URL though, I always have trouble getting the picture to show up directly in the forum. It's really annoyting actually. Could someone possibly help me with that as well? Well, let me know what all of you think. Thanks everyone!

Another small update. I'm starting to get stuck on the dragon. I'm not sure what else I need to do but I know he needs a whole lot more. Let me know what you think. Thanks! :)

as the dragon is your main focus in this image maybe you could consider another composition. I would suggest to center him more in a some vertical format. Other than that i think your going the right way ..maybe block in all of the shapes roughly before you start to detail anything...its easier to balance the colors then.

as for your image showing up directly ..hmm i dont know the only thing i knew would be to use photobucket or something as imagehost

here is my format suggestion :)

Wow, I agree with you 100%. I really like that composition actually! Thank you very much for your help.

I figured out the image problem... it's because I'm using PHP commands rather than .jpg etc...
