Is it possible to get rid of the Subdiv cage?

I selected "Subdiv to Polygon" but the cage was still there. I then used the combine option (the sub div model is a hand and the poly model is a arm) and the mesh exited the cage but the cage and mesh were still giving me trouble. When I move the cage the mesh moves, when I delete the cage the mesh deletes. Basically whatever I do to the cage affects the mesh.

Is there anyway of getting rid of the cage without deleting the mesh?

Go into the hypergraph and click the mesh and go to the "Input and Output Connections" button and it will show you all of the connections to the mesh node. One of them should be the subd surface node and if you select it it should just select the cage and you can safely delete it. if you accidentally delete the wrong one your whole mesh will dissapear so obviously just undo select another and try it again until you find the right one (aka the cage).
