View Full Version : Disappearing mesh

Hello, I'm having a weird problem with mesh disappearing suddenly for no obvious reason. The object hasn't been scaled to zero and its visibility is set to smooth. Turning metanurbs on and off has no effect, and the object it is parented to has its scale set to 1. Everything I can think of seems normal.. going back to setup mode makes it appear again. : /

Does this sound similar to anything anyone here have come across or does anyone have any suggestions regarding this? Thanks for any help.

I've had this a few times, but haven't found a solution yet. Here anyway, certain objects will disappear when viewed from a specific angle in the perspective / camera view. Change your view slightly and the object reappears. This is on a Nvidia 7900GS using the 91.47 drivers.

Cheers Moody, unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the solution. I've tried to render it and it doesn't even appear there so would assume any card issues are out of the question. I've re-added the object again a bunch of times, and the problem just appears out of the blue a few moments later. Might take a while but eventually it's just not there.

But thanks tho, keep the suggestions coming. :)

Missed this bit in your post when I read it earlier, as I wasn't long up.

The fact that the model appears when you go back to setup mode indicates that it's an effect / expression / keyframing that's causing it to disappear when in animate mode. Could you post screens of the Setup - effects tab, and the Animate tab ?

Have you set keyframes? If yes, you can go to Animate, stay on Frame 0, and do a SHIFT + DEL to delete the range from 0 to infinity! :)

Try adjusting your grid size (maybe?) with "[" and "]"

Try bypassing (turning off) any/all effects on the item list.

Which view are you looking at when the object disappears? Camera, Perspective, Ortho, etc.
Try changing to a different view, perhaps.

Dont know your experience with the program, but these are all the suggestions for now.
Need more info/screenshots, etc.

Oh and, are you on ATI? I had this problem long ago. Then I changed to an nVidia base card (fx 5200, something!). That fixed it. I also re-installed M:S.

Just as a double-check, is it possible that you have the object parented to more than one item (such as a master null and rotation and position nulls), and that one of those may have had a parameter accidentally set to zero?

...and just to sure, we're talking about being in Animate when you check that, correct?

Is it translating to any morph target that could be culprit?

If it's not rendering, as someone already mentioned, it would seem to be a problem with some scale, morph, or other effect you have set. If you have any expressions and effects, turn them all off, and see if the model shows up. If so, try turning on each effect one by one till you see the offender.

That's all that occurs to me at the moment.

Best,
Rick

Thanks for all suggestions, tried them all but nothing seems to work.. tried it on various machines as well.

Can't really post gfx online of this without getting into trouble  , but it basicly just looks like a rigged prop with armatures, then after using it for a while (it works in animate for a while, haven't figured out exactly when it disappears yet, it just does) the armature is still in the right place, the pivot point with the edit sphere is in the right place when mesh is selected, but the actual geometry is just not there.

So it does work to animate with, all scaling of every part of the rig is set to 1 as well as the bone it's parented to. Just not for very long. What I do is keep a seperate 'prop anim' file with all motion and only the prop, and when the prop disappears in the main scene I update the prop anim file with my animation updates and delete invisible prop, and load in this 'prop anim' file.. and visible again, for a while.

And yes, it does have a morph, which works for a while..

Almost finished with these props now anyway but would be nice to know what's up. :) It's so bizarre I still think it must be something I've done which is really silly.. but after double checking everything five times I'm just running out of options. :banghead:

Thanks all for your input though. :)
