Title: An Unexpected Visitor
Name: Kei Acedera
Country: Canada
Software: Photoshop
Hi there!
This is an illustration I did for Spectrum 14 and Expose 5. When I was a kid, I always loved those adventure stories and movies--especially the ones that take place undersea. This is what inspired me to paint this piece.
This piece is called "An Unexpected Visitor"
Enjoy!

First of all I like the concept, It looks like a seahorse-sea dragon hybrid. I love the composition and the color choices too. Overall a nice picture. :)

This is a beautiful piece. Everything is executed excellently... but the concept is so close to this (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=121&t=404125). Are you aware of the piece? rather similar concept... two different renders.. stylistic - realistic.

Lovely style Kei! it's such a peaceful mood. I wonder who's the unexpected visitor? The dragon or the diver? :P

The dragon is so cute! I wish I had a smaller version to put in my fish tank!
I like this painting Kei. It's cute, beautiful and mysterious all at the same time. It'd make a really nice childern's book illustration I think.

Hey guys, Thanks so much for the kind words!
Conkrys- I am aware of this image and I think it looks great!, but the inspiration for my piece was inspired from my childhood.
Here are some of my WIP:
It all started from an image I saw in my head just before going to bed. I just had to sketch it quickly before sleep..

As a kid, I've always been fasinated by adventure stories and films--especially the ones that take place undersea. And so I pictured my diver discovering something enormus in the black abyss..

Here are some sketches of what I pictured the sea dragon may look like..

One of my quick colored sketches..

This picture is a rough sketch of my final..

What a incredible concept process, man! Really interesting how you explored story and angles and shapes, before you go to the definitive piece! I hope some day I have such patience and ability. Your work deserve 5 stars, surely.

Hey Kei. Your pencil sketches are fantastic, thanks for adding them. The fluency in your pencils reminds me of Don Seegmiller's fantastic doodles. Great work.

AAwww Thanks guys very much! :) Glad you like it!! Yeah the thumbnail and brainstorming process really help alot. I wanted to treat it like it was an actual scene from a movie, not just a regular illustration. I always want to achieve some sort of story behind my paintings.
