View Full Version : any one have this prob?
okay so i have half a model uv textured and all...i duplicate symetry..no problem so far now i have 2 fully textured halves...then i merge the meshes and ..BAM...one half of the merged mesh is gray the other is textured...i tried all types of duplication with frozen and unfrozen meshes but cant get the two halves to merge fully textured..wtf..:surprised s

First of all, never do that. Texture the character only when it is complete. Second, read this:

Hope this helps

i don't see the point of bashin the program.. u the one using it :shrug:
bashing a PART of the program ..but not the whole prog..i mean it doesnt make sence that xsi would have a special script for this simple thing..its like maya making you use a special script to make primitves..its goofy is all..

This doesnt seem like much of a problem. Simply finish modeling before you apply you texture. Don't most people work that way?

Did you even read the link that Atyss posted before climbing on the soapbox ?
In any case i'll summarise.. When you create stuff like UVs and materials in XSI, it stores the info in selection groups called 'clusters'. So when you are working with only 1 half of the mesh, and then mirroring it, the clusters also gets mirrored, and 'freezing' isn't gonna remove this.
The solution is to combine the 2 UV clusters into 1, using the methods suggested in the link. And it doesn't require any scripts, just a simple cut-n-paste... or is that too "goofy" for you :)
lol..i tried that but i must be missing a simple step the link states in step three to" switch to the other projection"but i dont know waht other projection he was talking about..because the merged mesh has no new projection..do i add anew projection to the mereged mesh??..i am blaming myself now because everybody does not have this problem ..btw i am not soapboxing...just pondering:p out load..to people who actually care ..cuz my girlfreind dont care bout no 3d problems..
cheers thanks for tuts fellas...:beer::)

Look, when you merge the two objects, you will get to projections. The projections are contained under the clusters folder of the object, and each are under a node called Texture_Coordinates_AUTO, Texture_Coordinate_AUTO1, and so on. Select the projections from the explorer, that will be easier.
Hope this helps

okay i get it.. im dumb:p i did read your post in depth acutually had it in net view while working..i ldid use explorer to selct the cluster projection cords. and pasted but the other half did not unfurl from the corner..but i will try again..btw i think its cool so many people get passionete over a simple topic:p :) trying to help somone understand the inner workings of xsi:cool: to all i did get my model in one whole piece..just using deep exploration and taking it into max then reexprting to xsi for animation:) :)
