View Full Version : Need to subdivide but can't figure out how

Hi all,
Well I modelled this thing as two separate objects. The bottom part as a spline, the top as a primitive with extra segments. I then used the Connect command to be able to animate them together. While animating, I noticed that the block on top wasn't as smooth during deformations as I would like. I added a Hybernurbs object but it effects the lower half unfavorably (changes the shape). It did however create the proper smoothness for the top block. I then created a selection set for the block figuring I could selectively subdivide it but it doesn't seem to help. So my question is how do I subdivide just the block? Should I have taken this into account before connecting them?

Select the polygons you want to subdivide and use the subdivide command with Hypernurbs checkbox checked on.
right click>subdivide or menu>functions>subdivide

As an alternative you can try to cut (loopcut) parts of your object using the knife tool. In this case you might need to adjust the new edges.

Thanks Michael. I tried it and it seems to work but I have to reassign the weighting to the block. A bit of a pain but I should have planned ahead. Live and learn. Thanks again.
