View Full Version : Making Explosion, how?
AimBiZ 01-27-2007, 01:39 PM Hey there all! :D
I've never worked with emitters and other effects in Maya before and I need to learn pretty quick how to create a nice explosion, prefered a nuclearexplosion.
Anyone know any good tutorials you can direct me to? Would be very appreciated! :D

Tried that, didn't find anything good, and in render didn't seem to get it right, didn't look like an explosion.

Did that and came over this OverBurn. Seems to be very nice, now I just wonder how to install it. I see you get a bunch of files. Were should I put them?

you need to use the search function, this has been discussed over and over believe me. As for the visor version Im pretty sure you didn't hook up the initial state to your fluid for it to work right? Select Nuke fluid shape, go to Fluid Initial States in visor and right click on nukeApply.mel and apply, now play and render > different story.

Ehm, I don't understand what you are talking about now. I just wanted to know how to install overburn, you know, I get a zip file with a bunch of files(.ma , mel-script etc.) you see and I don't know were to put them.

So you are no longer interested in the visor version cause you couldn't make it work?
Put the .mel file into your local Maya scripts folder, and the .xpm into your local Maya icons folder. The .ma files are just sample ascii files for your enjoyment. Then type this into your command lind to call the script...
source overburn.mel;
overburn.mel;
you can copy this to your shelf also so you dont have to write it everytime you want to open it up.

Thank you, but I don't know what you mean with the visor version. I just went to the homepage of the creator and downloaded it. Didn't seem to be any other version avaible. I think this was 1.6, I guess that's the newest.

Don't get me wrong, overburn is great - but if you're looking for a quick easy nuclear explosion, you should use the fluid example in the visor and tweak the settings. Overburn will require a good knowledge of both particles and fluids.

The Overburn method has nothing to do with the examples in visor. The one in visor uses only Maya Fluids to create a nuclear explosion and does it really well. The overburn method uses Mayas particle system with fluids as volume shading which means you would have to create the motion of explosion using particle expressions.
Not easy but you can learn a lot if you persevere.

Hm, I guess that's probably the best alternative. Well, don't have time to wait for it but I will probably buy a modeling dvd soon, seems like you can learn a lot. Just one problem, which one to pick, sooo many...
