rolhionjs 02-23-2003, 12:44 AM Starting a new character inspirated by Warhammer 40k, and especially Terminator. I don't want to fit exactly an existing figure, but create something different for the final image.
Here's the start :

Really nice Strike, I love Warhammer stuff, so, once again, I can't wait to see more of this :)
Clean mesh too.
That "little test" looks incredible! I can't wait to see the finished image!

that texture looks supercool...
btw, that's Galdig the Driller isn't he? is he supposed to be inside that 1337 spacesuit or is he just to 'fit it';) ?
rolhionjs
02-23-2003, 06:28 PM
thx for the feedbacks.
Yes it's a variation of Gal-Dig ;)
This time, here's the new character for this one. New test of rendering, and i continue modeling :

not the final texture of course. I still use the front projection to have an idea of luminosity and reflections ;)

I can't bare to think how that little weakling of a creature can sustain such weight and don't tell me it;s the hidraulics in the armor cuz this guy could't flip the start button on the thinf :D
:D cool!

That looks pretty awesome for a kinda test
rolhionjs
02-25-2003, 09:31 PM
Raul Rezneck : sure it will be hydraulics !! ;) A kinda same techniques you could see in Alien:)
Johra : well don't know for the anim, but let's finish the mesh and the scene ;) but who knows ;)
Gom : héhé :) maybe you will be able to do it soon ;) (vu comme c'est parti, ça m'étonnerait qu'à moitié ;) thx amigo ! )
Well, not a big update for modeling, but testing some render tests and new textures. I think the environment will be a kinda desert in a building or something, so here's a new desert armor, kinda Desert storm for tough guys

That's it for the part One of this one. I changed the character, to fit better in the final armor. Mirroring of this part is definitive.

Very nice work. The geometry on the suit and accessories looks very clean. The head geometry though looks a little cluttered, but the rendered version is ok looking for your style. Because of your wires, you may not be able to get a wide range of facial expressions without getting hits in the surface. It is hard to see the face wire this small so I might be wrong.
Your textures are coming along nicely too. Clean mapping.
Whats with people from France kicking so much ass? My last name is "French" so I get style points!

You're rendering with HDRI right? You are getting a great feeling of mass.
If that is your own light setup though, I say good job!
rolhionjs
02-27-2003, 08:10 AM
no HDRI for the last images. I just use one light, and a skydome with radiosity ;)
I have to test some different lightning, coz i think there's too much brightness.

neat, but the new textures look a lot like the tutorial from 3dtotal; I prefered the other way you were going.

wow great work ! is this all in LW7.5 ?? I was wondering how you model this ? is it box modeling or do you do point by point and create poly ? also do you use any reference images in the background or just looking at things ? thanks !! can't wait to see it finished !
rolhionjs
02-28-2003, 11:07 PM
Yes it's Lightwave 7.5. I start from one box, and then use the plug PozExtender by selectionning my points and extend them to do that. I don't have any references images, i just do that by memory. If you know Warhammer 40k, that's deep inside my mind, and this is a personnal vision of a futurist warrior. thanx for your replies :)

03-03-2003, 10:09 PM
Well... big troubles with my main file... For some reasons it's corrupted (the object) and i can't open it anymore... Some hours of work destroyed... Anyway i still have a part of the armour in my HD, but not so advanced that the last images... I loose the head as well and i have to model another one. Same for the armor but for texturing this time... So it will take more time i thought...
Anyway, here's the start for the new character in the armor :

besides modeling ? euh... don't know :)
In fact i have some troubles with eyes modelisation and texturing. If you have some tutorials about this part, and particulary on Lightwave, i'm waiting, coz it's not so easy to find the good reflects, etc... thanks :)

Sweet !!! You're certainly churning out tonnes of models at the mo', what *edit is/are your current inspiration(s) ???
The only observation I can see is that the lip looks like he has a fat lip ie. been punched on his bottom left lip ??? Maybe this is the look you are going for, ie. rugged...
Actually the 2nd observation, but this isn't from an art perspective, you have spelt sergent incorrectly (sergeant)...
Top notch work yet again (4 high quality items within 2 months  ) :applause:
rolhionjs
03-05-2003, 05:15 PM
Viper : thanks :)
Samartin : my inspiration : Final Fantasy, Warhammer 40k for this image.
For the lips, yea i have to modify that, but later. I have to work seriously on the armor now.
Sergeant : oops (sergent is in french)

I really like this model.
But I've got to say that I like the other lips better. DOH! :D
Looks more like he's seen a bit of fighting in his days.
And, um, the eyes... as they close in to the nose they grow wider... I think it'd look better if they "widened" in the middle instead.
Right now it's like: <|
I think it should be like: <>
One persons view though.
As said above, it's a totally funky model.
:xtreme:

03-07-2003, 01:00 AM
Now that I look at it (and someone over at SFM mentioned it I think) there shouldn't be that vein on his forehead. Make that a scar instead....it'll look better :)

And here's a new start with the new armor not mirrored yet coz it's an old file i found since i lost my main armor file.
So alot of work to do, but just a test to see if the new character fit the armor well :)
http://www.designpicture.com/images3Dversion/facegenerale8.jpg
hey man great work!! !!please can you say me how to do good looking skin?I´m working on it for a long time and it still don´t look how I like:cry: ....if you have some great tutorial "how to" so please post it in here...tnx very much (sorry for my english)
yeah! great stuff STRIKE, I always liked your render quality:buttrock: great concept too and top notch texturing and lightning.. I'll just say that your organic modelling (the head) is not what you're best at, although it's yet very good...keep it up!
rolhionjs
03-08-2003, 02:10 PM
Thanks :)
TES : I don't have a tutorial to show you, because like you, i tried alot to obtain this kinda skin render (i spend some days to obtain different results and finally this one). In fact i use alot area lights and i don't have any specularity on this surface. Use different colors on your lights plus HDRI can do alot on this result. Lightwave provides alot of possibilities in this domain. Maybe just by observing a real picture, you'll find the way to do it. That's the point : observing. (Thanks to Amaan Akram to told me that some months ago, coz that's really the only way to try obtain a good way to render). With alot of work, i'm sure you'll do it ! :)
M@ : Thx ! I'm conscient of my weakness in modeling, and i have alot of things to learn. It's just one year i model (and CG as well) so i hope to get more skills in this domain :)
Great challenge you did man ;) (où est-ce que je peux voir d'autres images de ton travail ? )
tnx much strike:) no specular?so I´m going rendering for a really long time:) (i hate it)

Hey, absolutely awesome modeling and texturing too!!! Really cool design of armor! And the head looks simply cool! But I would have several crits... The lips.... mmm, you maybe should to beigger them up, they are not too noticable as they should be. And the eyes, elbows etc... they looked more rough on previous character! Now this guy doesn't seem to be ultra-killer as he propably is! But that's just my opinion. And the very last thing is that I think that the absence of specular map is not good way, everything, especially skin, has its own specularity! :)
But, althought IT'S ABSOLUTELY ULTRA-COOL piece of artwork!! :buttrock:

cANt : lol I take the compliment :) thanks ! :)

Damn, the left eye on the last one rulez :) Good work! :)
Heh, I'll probably get tired of telling you that :D
anyway, I can't wait to see this guy fully done in a Space-Hulk style environment with lots of slimy aliens surrounding him!
keep it up!

03-09-2003, 10:36 AM
Hey, the scar on the face adds much more agressiveness to the character! Color of that affected exe looks also very perfect! Well, now what I would improve is probably the cheek bone, currently it's not so expressive, so I'd roughen more this bone to add the right "killer" expression. ;) Oh and maybe the chin would be more rozghish... But it's only my opinion, althought it's pretty cool yet! :applause:
rolhionjs
03-09-2003, 10:55 AM
Thanks ! :)
Mcf : i'll see that for a next character, who knows... ;)
dave_baer : yea this head has great feelings, but less realistic. Anyway, i 'll try to put a tatoo on this one too
Viper : hehe :) thanks my friend :)
m@ : I don't know if the environment will be so full. I just think first to create a kinda pose for this one, and then... i have an idea, but i don't know if i'll do it for another image. You'll see :)
Merci :)
loocas : thanks, i'll do my best :)
Well... weather is nice today, so i'll take a pause today :)
