View Full Version : Slowing down Particle Simulation

Hi there,

I would like to create somekind of "Matrix"-Effect  . Is it possible to key the overall speed of a simulation or even freeze it while a camera continues to move? I only find keyable attributes on the emitter object, but it does not slow down existing particles - only new ones. I would like to know.

Thanks :applause:

yes it should be, if you loof at the particle properties almost everything is keyable, you can keyframe almost everything in the options tab if not all

well I still don't find the required keyable thingy. Can somebody just tell me how I can break/pause/stop a complete particle simulation during an animation?

I don't think there is a single click solution to this. There is a 'freeze' attribute in the particle op that suspends all motion of a simulation but it isn't keyable

One way would be to break the anim into 2 halves, one before the particle freeze, and one after. So you could anim your particles normally uptill the 'stop' frame, and render that out. Then freeze, do your cam moves, and render that out. Lastly join together in a post app.

Slowing/speeding up particles could be done by using expresions, or doing a scripted expression on the particle velocity/mass etc and using that to slow them down.

duplicate the cloud, freeze it.
key the visibility of the 2 clouds.

if you need the simulation o stop and then restart do the same thing, but duplicate a 3rd cloud and use set initial state, so that it will start from the same position of the frozen moment.

beginning:
coud1 shows and does his thing
cloud2 hidden
cloud3 hidden

freeze!:
cloud1 hidden
cloud2 (the one frozen) shows
cloud3 hidden

restart from the freeze:
cloud1 hidden
cloud2 hidden
cloud3 (on wich you used a set initial state to make it start from the frozen moment) shows.

there are better ways to do this with events and SCOPs, but for the moment being if you don't want to go technical this will work and only take seconds.
