View Full Version : The Troll Critique/Advice thread
MoonDoggie 01-26-2007, 11:06 PM Hello all,
I am working on this forest troll character and I am having problems with his basic design. I am _not_ done with the details at all (currently at 125k polys) but I am having a problem as to which direction I can continue in with him.
I like his Profile view and his 3/4 view, but his front is blah and boring.

If you don't mind sparing a moment, please take a sec to comment and give your input on what I can still do for this bust.

Well since you ask for advice, I had a couple things i wanted to say in my opinion. Before we start i am a programmer and still working on perfecting my 2d art before I start 3d.
In your demo reel. You show your great skill of painting skin textures but, I personal feel that you dont show a variety of your abilities in your reel.
1. I would stick the mallet in you reel as first or second cause that thing rules
2. I believe you need to try a fansty aprroach with the goblin model because I believe your demo reel lacks your abilty to texure armors, clothes, jewerly, metal. The goblin needs like the perfect male body because your demo reel is missing that. Yes, the 2nd
guy in your reel is great, but the question you should be asking your self is could is see me playing a game with this guy as a main character.
3. The first guy in the reel face looks kinda of funny to me I would try a more serious approach on the face.
4. The girl in your reel looks like a 5ft stubby person, not like there is anything wrong with that, but once again you need I feel that you model to real life on the body portions. Throw a swimsuit model body in there (not to be perverted) but once again you need to ask your self could you play that girl as a main character in the game.
I believe you can be great with your ability on skin textures just need to see some variety
I hope I didnt offend you. ill be checking your progress

Goldenkid1861: Thank you for your comments, I appreciate you taking a moment to check out my reel. That wasn't the intention of this thread, this thread is about this troll model, but I will certainly heed your comments and incorporate them in my next version of my reel. Many thanks.
