Ok, so I'm looking into expanding my skills by learning how to utilize tools such as Z-brush or Mudbox. My question is: As of right now, my knowledge of Z-brush is... well, I guess I don't have too much knowledge of Z-brush. Would it be beneficial to learn Z-brush then Mudbox? Or to just Mudbox? Or just Z-brush? Does one have an advantage over the other?

I could be wrong on this but I say most of the companies are familiar with Z brush, because Mudbox is a new tool, there could be less companies whose using it. :hmm:

Mohamed here you are wrong my friend. I believe a lot of companies are using MB. But it really doesn't matter (apart from the price :) )since all you need is to extract normal/displacement maps. Of coz in ZB you have more tools - such as painting and rendering. However if you have no time to learn where the hotkeys are, what to press and where to go, I'd recommend MB. You literally dont need any experience , it's just that simple. I usually dont like giving credits to the software companies but that one is a divine for sculpting.

E-mail them to ask a demo version they will be happy to send it to you.

If your new to that type of application i would take the mudbox route, its fast, easy, and i think it better represents what we will continue to see from those sort of apps. Zbrush has quite the learning curve, but i think in the end is a more flexible program. Zbrush 2.5 will own mudox but right now mudbox has the upperhand on zbrush. If you want to jump in and start working then get mudbox, If your willing to commit yourself to effectively learning a new application then get zbrush.

I though I'd be wrong Vladislav :D

I though since ZB is older than MB, a lot of companies would be using it, but guess that's not the case

Actually for me zbrush isn't that hard, although I didn't understand a thing when I tried first time. You can easily buy some video tuts and start learning, one thing I love from zbrush is zmapper. But I'm also interested on trying mudbox, I was told its a lot easier than zbrush.

I tried both. I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to import a frikkin model into zbrush, not to mention how the hell I should procede after it was in there. A nightmare.
And then mudbox comes along. Mudbox is divine, it must be sent from the heavens, there's no other explanation.
But then again, I never really gave zbrush a chance, for all I know it could in the end be the better program.
But if you can't be arsed to learn, like me, mudbox is the clear winner =D
