Im having some trouble with patch modeling in Max. I've done several models but this problem hasnt come up. I have a group of splines representing a very basic eyelid but the corresponding surface is not behaving at all. here are two pics

as you can see the surface has very little to do with the splines that created it. The outer ovals were created by scaling up the first one, so the vertex order should be similar. I can't imagine what else could be causing this.
