Libor 02-22-2003, 02:57 PM I ve just link newest version of my painting at the top, so its visible for first time visors... want more feedback:)
Original sketch was removed.
Old post:
(Hi everybody!
I ve just start painting my second pic in Photoshop and would like to hear some piece of advice on composition etc. Im a newbie in painting so I know shit about right composition:shrug:
Just for info: Im trying to get feeling of sun shining from right side and on horizon preparing strom - you know these strange lighting effects when sun is shining and sky is ink dark!
Those brown strokes represents bisons. I would like to hear opinions before I go hires and render details:D )

Not too bad, I like your style.
If I were you, I'd make the bison a little bit more defined, at least the ones that are close to the view, and also I would probably change the color of the sky to one a bit brighter. Despite the quality of work, the scene itself just looks drab.
Usually when one thinks of the open plains they imagine freedom and brightness, which your painting doesn't quite seem to reflect.
Hope this helps some.
I just love the colours! I think you should refine the image a little, but only a little otherwise you might lose its unique style.

i love it. Even though its still rough and detail hasnt been added it has a great feel to it. one of the things i might change is the pose of some of the animals. the bison closest to the camera on the left is my favorite, really nice. the animal in the center of the composition looks out of place. either the side profile needs to be changed to something different, maybe like facing towards the camera with his head down eating, or maybe because he's on a slope and his feet look like they are on a flat plane. also his shadow needs to adjusted in the direction of the other shadows. Those are just ideas I'm throwing out, your painting is awesome , hope some of these ideas help.:)

Thanks for your response guys:) Much appreciate it!
I will definetely take your advices in my mind. Yes, its just sketch so there arent any details (also original size). I wanted to know some opinions before I go to detailing (much much easier than reworking hires hi-detail painting).
Temporal: what does mean "drab" ? Hmm, maybe "crap" I think:hmm:
You are right about feeling of plains and its freedom - maybe I should change a scale of bisons...
I ´ve caught flu or something so I dont know when I ll be back to painting but I ll update ASAP, I promise!
Cheers:beer:

Not quite what I meant. The color of the grass in conjunction with the texture and color of the sky just makes the scene sort of . . . depressing. Might just be me though.

Hi there!
Here´s a small update:D Its still just sketch but now I think composition is much better than in old version.
Temporal: yes, its guite dramatic/depressive but Im trying to achieve this kind of mood:D
Well I think Ill go for hires in short time and start to redner all the important details. Hope I wont overdo the detailing loosing painterly look! Check for updates:wavey:

Yeay, somehow it has something that's looking new. The sky is still quite "unreal", but the bisons come out nice so far. I like the way how they are standing in the grass, that adds some kind of deapth to the image...
