The GeForce cards are not highly recommended for use with Maya (and this comes from both nVidia and Alias Wavefront).
The only cards with GeForce chip on that are recommended are the Quadro series but they are very expensive for home usage.
If you're still determined to buy a simple GeForce be ready to make a lot of expirementation with drivers(and more).

yes i agree but ... i dont have any trouble with Maya and a Geforce 2 GTS

i say if your working for ILM thats an issue ... but if your in a state where you just purchased Maya and learning it or your a Med/Average user, go and Buy a Geforce 2/3 because it will run just smooth and you'll still be able to run your normal stuff ...

some people would like their 3d Cards to do the job at their place

To be honest, at work Im still using a geforce 256 sdr. I still get the fullscreen slowdowns, and poor artisan perf, but I still put up with it

Time for an upgrade for me I think

You could wait for the upcoming Quadro 4 since prices seem reasonable especially for the 64 MB. cards. I wouldn't touch Geforce due to the driver issues for the novice where it can get confusing. In order for Maya to run well without any stablity issues.

I know at least a dozen people who have no problem with using geforce2 and win2k. Just don't get into XP.
