View Full Version : Brazil r/s Public Test
nathan 3d 02-22-2003, 09:08 AM I just got my new copluter all setup and when I went to redownload brazil I found that the public test was not avalable. I would have just used the files from when I had it installed before but I had already deleted them off my old hard drive. Is there any place I can download the public test? I would love to buy it, but $750 is way to much for a un imployed 16 year old : P

I think I read on the splutterfish (or what ever that firm is called) website that they will comeback with a new brazil test ver. They had some problems with the last one and that is why it is not that there anymore... I think that was the thing man... Good luck

Heya,
The main reason the link was removed is that too many users/visitors believed that the Brazil r/s Public Test was fully representative of the full version of Brazil r/s - i.e. an evaluation version of some sort.
However, it's not - it lacks many of the features (camera, lights, materials, sub-surface scattering, photon mapping, glossy reflections/refractions, skin and other shaders, etc.) from the full version, bugfixes, etc.
Nevertheless - it's still available, right here :

But in reality the Public Test is incredibility powerful as a free Renderer.
It's nice to have all the other fancy stuff but how often do you actually use it?
And if you try hard you can fake those effects with pretty good results. I personally was amazed that SF were so forthcoming with their Renderer. It's nice to know that not everything is motivated purely by money. I think when Brazil was in it's infancy it was just a pet project of two blokes from Blur. I kinda got the impression they surprised themselves when they saw how spectacular the results were. I am of course speculating on this but that is just the impression I got.
Hmm, I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, but it's all good...
Bye,
Kayle...
