View Full Version : WIP-Needs Critique (Nudity)
psyc3d 02-22-2003, 07:38 AM This is a model that I have been working on and off on for sometime now.
http://members.shaw.ca/psyc3d/htmldocs/gallery_images/prog04.jpg
sorry for the link but the post would only allow me 20000 bytes and you cant get any quality in a 19K image.
The hair and the texture are still in progress and I am working on the skeletal rig also so that I can post poses at a later date.
I have seen some AMAZING work in this thread and would be honored if some of you could critique my work.
There is other work available at www.psyc3d.com
Thanks,
Matteus

I will post some close ups in the next day or so I am waiting to hear from the moderators about the limited space. If I can get some more space I will post them to this post if not I will post on the site.
Definately something tomorrow though.
Thanks

head and hand update
The tip of the thumb looks too long and the grooves on to of the hand that are meant to be the voids left by the hand bones are too deep. On most people's hands the hand bones are able to be represented by bump maps so I think you need to concentrate more on the general shape.
The head is the best bit so far. Keep it going. :wavey:

Thanks for the input I have been trying to work on the hands lately I will take the input and see what I can do with them.

on the hands... the fingernails... typically they have some sort of lines or bumps on them
take a look at yours and you will see grooves running up them. just a hint... :D
I don't think he's got around to bump mapping yet :hmm:
Perhaps the cranium is a tad big...

the size of the head has been a constant battle sometimes it looks too big other times too small. It does not look that bad with hair on but I will check some reference material and see.
And yes you are right i have not yet started to make the bump map layers there is only one map that covers the pores so far I have not yet created the wrinkles etc.
thanks for the feedback so far...

any updated pics?
the hand, rather the thumb as been mentioned looks too long
when you pull the thumb next to the index finger, or somehow figuring it out without moving the polys. how close is it to the second knuckle on the index finger?
i dont think it goes past it IRL does it? maybe dependent on people. but for that persons size it looks like it wouldnt
aswell the head looks a bit wide, maybe make it a bit more horizontal, and then you'll have an easier time on the cranium...
just a though, good rounding though
the arms look unnaturally long too. could just be me... but thats just my eye telling me what it sees not science

I like Nikki a lot
only in the closup of the face she looks a bit like a clown I think. i'd say pay more atention to her eyelids en her mouth that looks a bit clowny to me and I dont think that was you'r intension at all.

Nose:
How the nose connects to the face looks a bit odd, nose looks like sticking out from the face. Try to make the nose connect to face with less angle on the sides, I would say. Also, from bottom to top, you can make the nose go just a little bit narrower to make it look better.
Eyes:
The distance between the eyes seems also a lot to me, try to keep one eye distance between the eyes. You can both make the eyes a little bigger and move them closer to eachother. From the side view, they should extend a little more to back, the front of the face needs to more curved.
Eyebrowses: You can tweak the eye browses a bit so they don't look like arcs of circles. You should move top of the eye browse (the angle) a bit towards lateral so they look more beautiful. Just check out any beautiful woman on the web to get a reference.

I am posting an update to the hand.
Thanks for the input on the head, Everyone I have been battling with the eyes and the distance apart they are.
I think I will work on that a little more today and see what I can do with them.
On the nose i was going for a slightly wider nose than a pronounced edge on it, kind of an asian woman type of nose crossed with a models nose.
The Arms: I went in and re measured the distance from the finger tip to the under arm then checked from underarm to above the knee and the arms are atontomically the right length. They do look too long though, I'm sure that will correct its self when I close the hand and get the rig complete.
thanks for the input so far all.

i dont know, but somehow i think the head looks a bit ehm..scary. I dont say that its a bad model, its just that, some proportions are a bit off, and the expression is very ehm..unnatural?

could you elaborate on what areas are out of proportion please.

hmm.. like he said before it does looks like the head is angry or something. After looking at it for a while i think its because of the eyes. I'm not sure what about them, but they just look like angry eyes. Maybe the pupil is too small? i'm not sure. I would also make the eyebrows bigger. It looks like she got out of control with her tweezers or something (like a few of the girls at my school, lol the practically have to paint on new eyebrows because they plucked all theirs out. Idiots.) OTher then that i really like it :)

Thanks yah the eybrows are a bit thin I will open up the texture and make them a little thicker and see if that helps.
I havent rigged the pupils in yet so that is just a texture on the eyes which yes is a little small thank for the input.
This is going to be an animated model so the initial pose of the face I wanted to open to mold into 40 plus blend targets so she will be smiling at some point when I get to that point
thanks so much for the input so far everyone if anyone wants to see more let me know and I will post the progress. I am working on the skeletal rig right now. Soon there will be animations.
Thanks

I am thinking about making this model a little more comic book like maybe a hero type character.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what type fo character I should develope her into?
Thanks for the input so far from those that have helped me the model is coming along better now I think.

I have tweaked the head some more here is the updated image:
http://members.shaw.ca/mchitty/images/head.jpg
I could not upload an image to the post as the size is too small.
Input is apreciated and taken thanks.
Looking nice.
About those lips. I dont believe that except for callogenated lips that they visibly jut out at the top of the upper lip. Its more of a flesh/texture change with a nearly smooth transition.

Thanks for the input I was thinking that as well I will rework the lips and repost in the next day or so.
If anyone wants to see the body aswell feel free to post and ask for it.

I see lots of improvement on the object comparing the beginning, that's good.
What I should say:
Nose: The sides of the nose connects to the cheeks with a sharp angle, just touch your own nose and you'll see it is not that sharp, it goes with a broad angle.
Eyelids: The eyelids should not look like an extra layer sticked around the eye. it goes inwards.
Lips: Lips also connect too sharp and they also look like they are an extra layer glued to the head, tho not as much as the eyelids.
Ears: Just make them look like your own ear. They look really not like ears, they are too wavy.
Eyes: The Eyeballs seem to big which makes the eyes look flat. Make the eyeballs smaller and let the lateral commissure of the eye extend a little backwards.
My general suggestions:
Reference. Take references. Lots. Download them of the net. Look at your own face to see how things connect with eachother. Grab a member of family and examine. Examine lots..
That's about it.

I have taken all the advice that has been given in this thread and it has been extremely helpful.
The progress that I have been able to make on this model has been surprising with the imput from everyone.
My previous post is pretty much the finished head other than the texture and adding hair. If anyone has any other suggestions please post them and I will take them under advisement.
Thanks again everyone

read the posting rules. Repeting posting is not allowed. (the thread name is not allowed either)
" On critique, you may post attached updates. "
don't just add bumps.
Wait till you have a bigger update to post and if no one replies then do more work until you have something that people want to reply to. You can't force crits and comments you gotta work for them
edit:
i'm sorry if this comes off kinda rude but by you bumping your own thread you are making other peoples threads drop further down the list strickly because you wants comments. I want comments to but I have to be fair to everyone
