View Full Version : Character: Actor portrait
Inspired by the excellent recent post of Terry Ford's Peter Cushing portait, I decided to resurrect a model I started some time ago and complete the texturing. Here are a few pics. CnC welcome.

Looks good overall but here are a few points you can improve on. 1. The forehead ridges don't flow correctly (to the right).
2. The ear does not seem to fit in, perhaps work on its texture a little more?
Hope this helps

the textured version looks awesome
The 'inside of his nose' is probably a bit too light/glossy, and I think it would help if you modeled the base of the neck/shoulders. His current neck looks a bit long as it is.
Should his ear really be that stretched out ? Maybe you could squeeze it a little, to match the distance between his eyes and bottom of his nose...(does that make sense ?).
cool stuff !

not bad. The texture could use vast improvement to increase the realism. Right now it almost looks like a painting, something about it lacks depth.
Thanks for the crits guys.
stephen2002: I agree. This may be due to the 3 point lighting I used. Will work that.
Marc Andreoli: Also due to using shadowing spots for the fill and rim light.
SARC: Jacks face is very asymetrical. Textures do need a lot more work. Heres the pic I used for the front view. You can see the forehead creasing flows kind of off.

You could probably just make sure there is no specularity (black on your specular map) and that the color is very dark (black on color map) in those areas...
Or use a 'diffuse' map if you are using Lightwave (not sure how they are called in other packages) to exclude those areas from being lit.
hell, you could even touch it up in Photoshop ;)

Ya, I found some more photo references over the weekend and see all kinds of places that need tweak'n. I was up till two last night stuck in an infinite loop nudging points. Also going to rework the textures some.

Not a bad start, but he's sort of looking like Jack :) I think he needs more square type features, a different complextion and maybe a lower forhead.
