Encore DVD - affordable, easy to understand and it actually produces usable DVDs *woohoo*

yep, Encore. v2 is much nicer than v1.5.
I hear premiere pro can burn DVDs now, but haven't tried it since i have Encore.

on a Mac, I'd have to recomend DVD Studio Pro 4. I love it.

I've used Sonic's DVDit PRO, but eh.... I can't really recommend it. It might be easy to use, but it seems very limiting. Menu formats are strange to handle, because it doesn't preview widescreen menus correctly, buttons are offset...all sorts of wacky things. Does anyone else use it or has used it?
Still gotta check out Encore, sounds interesting. I hear the new Nero even supports 3d menu creation?! Curious stuff.

dvdlab pro is a good, cheap node-based dvd authoring tool for PC. i enjoyed using that. I've got encore now though (got it in the production studio bundle... didnt purposefully go out and buy it), and after getting my head around the timeline base for it instead of nodes, i quite like that too. Plus it works nicely with photoshop for menu creation and such, which is also helpful.
I think i still prefer the node-based workflow of dvdlab pro, and from what i've been told, dvdstudio pro.

Whoa, if you have the money, go for it, but I doubt you would want to spend 15000 bucks and more just to get started. Also it's a very technical program and you have to know a lot about the DVD specs. We have it and we need it, as there are several things we cannot do in Encore (and Encore was not even in existance back in 2001, so we had little choice), but for a beginner it's overkill (and it costs a lot of money). Didn't I say that already? *giggle*

yep scenarist is not aimed at home users hence the price tag, it has a steep learning curve and if you dont know whats going on its easy to break a build, plus its a spec level tool so unless you have a reason for controlling (rather than have the software decide) exactly how a disc will work it is a waste of time and money.
I guess you want a decent tool for creating your own dvd's.
Although not in production any more spruce dvd maestro is an excellent tool, easy to use and very robust, plus its muxing engine creates very good spec code.
If you cannot get hold of that i would have to say DVD studio pro, it is basically dvd maestro ripped apart and rebuilt with a fancy interface and some not particuarly useful extra tools. Apple bought out spruce and discontinued maestro.
have fun...
