Hey guys, I'm having an extremely annoying issue with the translucency shader. I applied it to this character model I'm working on, and I seem to be getting these weird little artifacts. You can see them underneath the nose and the left eye socket. They are like little luminescent dots. It looks really bad in the shadowed areas. Anyone know how to reslove this? I'm pretty puzzled (and aggravated). Here's an example of the problem:

Hi Greg
Is that max' default raytraced translucency shader?...if so i don't think it works fine for skin. it's not like Brazil's SSS or VRay Translucency.
would you post the shader's parameters? or the material itself?

Hey, ila. It's max's default transluceny shader. I didn't use raytracing, but here is the dialog:

Greg, I see no problem with the parameters, the problem is in SHADOW MAP casting in inner area of the mesh, try a larger size shadow map for your light source, turn off shadow receiving or use raytraced shadow & let me know what happens.

Whoa! Finally somebody else who's had the same problem as me-- only mine was MUCH worse, as you can see in my thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42014) on the subject. Since then, the cyan dots have disappeared, but the red ones still show up on the surface of the eyeball. The skin and eyeball were both raytraced materials, and the skin does have translucency-- but the eyeball does NOT. So it must be something else, maybe?
