Hi everyone, i have a couple questions about the current project im working on...heres a couple pics....ok first off, i need to know how to "imprint" the words onto the derranged sphere. I know i can do a boolean, but the result of those in blender are almost always very poor(at least in my case they are :)
also i want to make the ground look fairly similar in the cg as it does in the artwork, but i dont even know where to start with that
any suggestions will be very appreciated:)

Well, one option for the text imprint is to use the Sculpt tool. You would need to use a 'testing' version of the latest Blender (2.43), or wait for the official release (should be before the month is out). With Sculpt, you can simply 'write' the word into the mesh.

As for the ground, what are you trying to imitate . . . the hand-painted feel? . . . the thickness of the different color layers? Most likely, you'll want to create the ground texture in another app that can simulate real-world painting styles. The Blender version mentioned before also has improved painting features built-in, and may be useful.

Best way to "imprint" something on a mesh is using a Bump or Displacement map, depending on how detailed you want it to be.
