This is my second big matte painting. My first was for the atlantis competition.

I learned alot from the Atlantis competition, But I havn't worked on a big matte since. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=196&t=389553

Here's the new matte I am working on. Feel free to rip it apart. I still have alot left to do but you might see something I haven't :

It looks good.. but there is a small thing I would change--I would flip the planet in the sky so that the light comes from the right, like is in on the ground--it took me a long time to figure out that it was lit from the wrong side! And thank you for making the dark side of the planet the same color as the sky--that is accurate!

Dang! Good Catch Perkins! That's something I've never thought about before. Illumination in a solar system that has one light source, is going to affect all objects.

It's a fun piece--I also liked how you combined the modern lines of the temple with the ancient carvings;-)

I think your color palette isn't quite right, you hace some really green sunny day mountains, and the sky is in sunset, the keylight direction is really confusing, and the temple does not have shadows at all, it looks really flat

take a look at the left foreground tree, where it has its shadow and higlights, the exposure is not uniform in all the elements

James. Thanks a bunch.

I tried to use your critique. Hopefully I understood everything correctly. Result:

Better? Worse? I personally like it more. It seems to look more realistic than before and has more depth. But I need some other eyes to look at it and comment.

definitly way better it looks much more integrated, nice mood with that little sun hitting the temple, also the desaturation helped a lot , very nice work
