Hi im looking for advice on buying a new graphics card. I am not to familiar with the latest graphics cards so of course this is why i need advice. I am looking for a AGP card that has 512mb of memory or better, basically it needs to be very good at handling 3d graphics as I am a 3d modeller and animator, so needs to be good at rendering aswell. So any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou

Martin

Hey Wolf,
hope this doesn't sound cold, but try doing a search first. There are tons of threads, many of them new enough to be relevant, discussing cards.

Some of the threads are rather specific, others more general, such as, "how much will a gfx card help my rendering speed vs. viewport speed?"

Read up on all the good info that's already out there, then feel free to ask a question not covered. Someone will be sure to help you out.

Cheers.

A quick summary of the posts in these forums goes like this:

A high end Geforce 7 series will be plenty for most applications. These cards are generally 256MB, but that's not such a big deal, its really more important to look at the GPU at the core of the graphics card rather than the amount of RAM (which is not a good performance indicator).

Also, Graphics cards have no effect on final image render times. Rendering is pretty much JUST the CPU and system RAM working together. More CPUs generally means a faster render.
